Olympus Mju 9000 review : The segment of mega zoom cameras with a compact size has always been dominated by Panasonic's TZ (Travel Zoom) series cameras. The other brands already offered a mega-zoom camera with 18x zoom and larger in their assortments, so why produce another similar camera in a compact size? However, it soon became clear that Panasonic had managed to hit the right string with its TZ-series, which finally prompted other brands, including Olympus, to come into action. • Read our full Olympus Mju 9000 review.

Olympus reviews : Mju 9000 compact camera
Since the introduction of the first compact camera, thousands of designs have been launched onto the market. Lately, there seems to be more emphasis on color. Some camera models are now available in up to 6 different colors. The design however, is generally predictable; a rectangular shape, either with or without curved lines, a built-in flash, LCD on the back, etc. This makes it a genuine challenge to come up with a truly revolutionary, unique design. However; in most cases, it is simplicity that does the trick, with the IXUS being the best example. The basis is in fact nothing but a rectangle with a circle in the center. This is the base of each and every IXUS.

Olympus Mju 9000 megazoom camera operation
Activating the Olympus Mju 9000 is carried out just as I expected. After about 2 seconds, the camera is ready to take to the first pictures. The command dial on the back of the camera next to the monitor provides several shooting programs. The easiest mode is the so-called i-Auto mode. The camera automatically selects the best mode to capture the scene. This is a full auto mode which lets you take pictures in the best possible way for that particular scene, by simply pressing the shutter release. This mode disables a number of functions inside the camera. After activating the menu, you won't be able to access the camera menu, the scenes or the panorama mode.

Olympus Mju 9000 review including a technical DIWA Labs test
It is not so easy nowadays for a manufacturer to stand out from the crowd. A lot of innovative technology is available and can easily be used through a license in order to equip the camera with all sorts of useful features. Each manufacturer has to tackle high resolution; we now find that 10 megapixels are considered to be the very least, and also the issues that come with it, such as noise etc. We had the Olympus Mju 9000 in the office for a short period of time and tested the camera in practice. In addition, the Mju 9000 was also put through extensive technical tests in the DIWA test lab. Our findings can be read in the following Olympus Mju 9000 review. |
