Sony A850 gallery : Just before the IFA kicked off, Sony introduced new Alpha DSLR cameras. The Sony A850, a full-format SLR with a stunning price-breakthrough, is the most remarkable DSLR among the ones that were introduced. Sony decided to use the same strategy for the Alpha 850, as the brand did for the A900 at the time. This becomes completely clear, however, when we take a look at the specifications of both cameras, concluding that there are hardly any differences between the A900 and the Sony A850. So if you were among those that were hesitant at the time because of the price tag that dangled from the A900, you may want to take a closer look at the Sony A850; a 24.6 Megapixel camera with an extremely attractive price tag!

The Sony A850's frame speed of 3 frames per second is a tad slower than the A900, which was able to reach 5 fps. This leaves the Sony Alpha 850 slightly behind the current competition. Then again, the amount of pictures that can be processed inside the buffer has been increased considerably for immediate benefit. The optical viewfinder of the Sony A850 features a somewhat smaller coverage, which has obviously been applied with cost-saving matters in mind.

Sony A850 review : Alpha test photos
It's rather odd the Sony Alpha 850 does not support Live View mode, whereas the Sony Alpha 500/550 DSLR cameras do feature this function. We are not sure of the exact reason that prompted this decision, although it looks like Sony preferred a fast introduction of a full-frame DSLR camera with an extremely hot price instead of developing the camera further for a higher price. The Sony DSLR A850 is being extensively tested this very moment, however, the first batch with sample pictures has already been made.

Sony A850 test photos
The Sony Alpha 850 DSLR test photos were taken in Purmerend, the Netherlands, during a demonstration of the fire department of Purmerend, with a full production digital SLR camera which means that this Sony Alpha camera is equal to the model that the consumer can expect to purchase. In the meantime, our DIWA camera test lab will review the Sony DSLR-A850 camera under laboratory circumstances from a technical viewpoint.
