PanasonicPanasonic GF1 gallery : With the introduction of the DMC-GF1, a new generation of Panasonic Micro Four Thirds cameras appears. The first generation, consisting of the G1 and, shortly afterwards, the GH1 with video function, was quickly accepted worldwide, and was honored with several Awards, including a DIWA Gold Award. With the arrival of the Panasonic GF1, the serious photographer is being approached. The camera features extremely compact dimensions and is up to 35% smaller in volume, as well as 26% lighter than its predecessor, the Lumix G1. The Panasonic GF1 digital camera makes Panasonic a strong competitor to Olympus, which recently introduced the Olympus E-P1 PEN Micro Four Thirds camera.

Panasonic GF1 at IFA 2009
Prior to the kick-off of the IFA 2009, held in Berlin, Germany, I had the opportunity to shoot with the Panasonic GF1 camera. The compact size and light weight made it a very comfortable experience, especially after a full day of shooting. Normally, I use a professional DSLR with matching lenses, a combination of several kilograms in a camera bag. And you can really tell halfway through the day by the fatigue you feel in your fingers and hand, as the sheer weight of the combination doesn't always make photographing a joy. Moreover, a large part of the work does not necessarily have to be carried out by such a pro-DSLR camera. One of my biggest wishes is always to find a compact and light equivalent.

With the arrival of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1, this particular wish is certainly fulfilled for the serious photographer. Using the camera in practice is handy, and it is a versatile tool when it comes to functionality. Also because, like the GH1 the Panasonic GF1 features a video capture function in addition to capturing still images. Capturing is not just limited to AVCHD (1280x720 pixels); it is also possible in HD Motion JPEG in a similar resolution. The world's lightest Micro Four Thirds system camera, the Panasonic GF1, features a 12.2 Live MOS 4/3-type sensor, 3-inch 460,000 dot monitor, built-in flash, RAW & JPEG support, 3 fps continuous shooting, and many intelligent image solutions. This makes the GF1 a highly interesting camera for the enhanced and avid photographer.

The Panasonic Lumix GF1 system camera test photos were taken in the largest palace in Berlin (Germany), the castle of Charlottenburg with a pre-production Micro Four Thirds system camera which means that this Panasonic Lumix camera is almost equal to the model that the consumer can expect to purchase. In the meantime, our DIWA camera test lab will review the Panasonic GF1 camera under laboratory circumstances from a technical viewpoint.
