Olympus SP-590UZ review - Camera design
The Olympus SP-590 UZ mega zoom camera has to deal with a number of predecessors. One of which is the most recent one; the SP-570 UZ, and it won't come as a surprise to anyone that both cameras have a similar appearance. Whereas its predecessor goes for plain black, the new Olympus SP590 UZ has adorned its black housing with several silver-colored details. Striking is the two-tone silver and black color scheme on the super zoom lens. As for its weight; the Olympus SP-590 UZ has gained a little, albeit only a mere 8 grams, and its dimensions have increased by a few millimeters. This is pretty impressive considering the larger focal range the SP-590UZ offers compared to the SP-570UZ; the latter camera still had to settle for 'only' 20x zoom.
Review Olympus SP-590UZ - Operation
It is obvious that the operation of a camera should not cause problems for any person. However, this is not always the case, and it is not always perfect, although we have to say a number of manufacturers do come close. It's often small issues that make optimal operation impossible; ranging from a too slow navigation option, to unclear pictograms in an equally vague menu structure. The ever increasing amount of possibilities and options certainly don't make things clearer, features that are only discovered while using the camera in practice. The Olympus SP-590UZ is a camera suitable for the hobby and amateur photographer. It is a camera that offers auto as well as manual settings, but contrary to its predecessor, stores in JPEG format only.
Camera review Olympus SP-590UZ including a DIWA Labs test
In short; there are more than enough creative options to be able to speak of a new camera that is facing fierce competition in the mega zoom digital camera segment and, additionally, also when it comes to the DSLR cameras, which are still on the rise in popularity. We worked with the Olympus SP-590 UZ for a while and had the camera thoroughly technically tested in our DIWA Lab. Both results are combined in the following Olympus SP-590UZ review. |
