 Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZX1 test photos : After attending a press conference in Lisbon, Portugal, I was given the opportunity to shoot with the new Panasonic Lumix ZX1 Megazoom camera. Although the model's status is not yet final, the sample photos in this article give a good impression of what we can expect from the new Panasonic ZX1 camera. The Panasonic Lumix ZX1 is a remarkably slim and compactly designed digital camera featuring a large optical zoom. The newly developed lens unit includes the world’s first 0.3mm super-thin aspherical lens and the industry’s first 0.3mm spherical lens. This innovative lens technique realizes to fit the high performance 8x optical zoom lens into the slim and compact body of the Panasonic ZX1 camera.

The portable size comes in handy during a city stroll through Lisbon. The 12.1 Megapixel resolution is more than enough and the 8x zoom lens combined with the POWER O.I.S. (previously MEGA O.I.S.) enables shooting in a very relaxed way. The Panasonic Lumix ZX1 digital compact camera has a strikingly fast response time. Activating the Panasonic Lumix camera is ultra-fast and the same can be said for image processing. It is the new Venus Engine V processor that contributes highly to this speed.

The Panasonic Lumix ZX1 digital camera looks very similar to the compact cameras from the FX series, but then again, it also looks like the successful TZ camera series. It seems a new segment has been born with the introduction of the Panasonic Lumix ZX1; that of the ultra-compact Megazoom! Due to the pre-production status of the camera, it is too early to come to a final verdict. As soon as we have a full evaluation sample at our disposal, however, we will publish a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZX1 review along with a high resolution picture gallery.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZX1 test photos were taken in Lisbon, Portugal with a pre-production digital compact camera which means that this Panasonic camera may not be equal to the model that the consumer can expect to purchase. Soon, our DIWA camera test lab will test the Panasonic Lumix ZX1 digital camera under laboratory circumstances from a technical viewpoint.
