Canon PowerShot SX200 IS review : The introduction of the Canon PowerShot SX200IS is Canon's response to Panasonic's success with the TravelZoom series Megazoom cameras. To be honest, we had been baffled for quite a while by the fact that Canon, as well as all the other camera manufacturers, simply allowed Panasonic to move ahead without any form of counter attack. Now that the Canon SX200IS is available, it means competition has finally arrived, and with the specifications of Canon's newborn Megazoom camera, it will be hard for the competition to at least keep pace.• Read our full Canon PowerShot SX200 IS review.

Canon PowerShot SX200 IS review - Megazoom camera
Up until now, Canon's PowerShot SX-series had never come up with a camera featuring compact dimensions like that of the Canon SX200 IS. This undoubtedly also explains why Panasonic's Megazoom cameras are such a success. In any case; Canon enthusiasts are now able to purchase their very own Megazoom compact camera. If we compare the Canon PowerShot SX200IS to the Panasonic TZ7, we find the Canon somewhat bulkier, but other than that, they have the same dimensions.

Activating the Canon PowerShot SX200 IS megazoom camera is fast, the camera is ready to take its first picture in less than a second. The built-in flash pops up automatically, regardless of the program the camera is set to. If you want to flash automatically, you have to set the flash program to AUTO. The camera will recall this setting. Beware however that it will also remember when you have deactivated the flash, even if the camera is in green AUTO mode. You'd expect Canon to give priority to auto flash in the green mode.
