Nokia 7100 Supernova review : The Nokia Supernova series, launched in June 2008, adds a number of colorful mobile phones to the Finnish company’s assortment. The Supernova phones vary both in price and in specifications. Low-budget as well as mid-end mobile phones are available in this new series. ‘Supernova’ is an unexpected choice for the name of a mobile phone line. It makes the product more recognizable and certainly more personal than a name like 'E-series'. Supernova stems from astronomy and relates to an impressive explosion of a star during which a lot of light is freed. With the Supernova series, Nokia tries to attract the trend-sensitive consumer who wants to show his or her personality through his/her mobile phone.

Nokia 7100 Supernova review
The Nokia 7100 is clearly a basic cell phone; the package is also simple and compact. However; in general, the Supernova series packaging is more colorful than that of other basic Nokia mobile phones. In addition to the mobile phone and the manual, you will only find a battery charger and a headset in the package. Despite the affordable price and the simple features, I still find the Nokia 7100's appearance very interesting.
Nokia 7100 Supernova camera
The integrated 1.3 Megapixel digital camera in the Nokia 7100 Supernova is activated by holding down the shortcut on the side. It takes awhile before it actually starts but eventually you can use the entire screen as a viewfinder when held horizontally. The image reproduces very slowly, which creates a jerky view as soon as you move. Also capturing a photo takes awhile which makes taking spontaneous snapshots practically impossible. The video camera is automatically activated which may make you unintentionally record a video. Switching to the picture-taking mode has to be done by using the navigation keys. The settings are rather limited. You will only find a self-timer and a night mode in addition to the resolution and quality controls. Due to the lack of autofocus, taking a sharp picture is not always possible.
Nokia Supernova review
The pictures display quite nicely on the monitor. They are fairly recognizable and good enough to use as a background or to send via MMS. However; if you view the pictures on a computer, the quality is poor, to be blunt. You can hardly ever take a sharp picture. The pictures turn out blurred with meager coloring. The camera module was obviously not on the Nokia design department's priority list. That said; we are dealing with a basic phone here. Read the full Nokia Supernova review at LetsGoMobile. |
