 Nikon Coolpix L100 picture gallery : With a long period full of camera introductions behind us, it is now time to focus on getting hold of the first test samples and produce some camera reviews. One of the recently introduced new Coolpix digital compact cameras is the Nikon Coolpix L100. This is an entry-level Megazoom with an affordable price-tag. It is completely new for Nikon to introduce this type of camera, with a large optical range, as entry-level camera. The Nikon L100 features 10 effective Megapixels, the famous EXPEED system for digital image processing, and a NIKKOR lens featuring 15x zoom with a range of 28mm wide angle to 420 mm ultra telephoto zoom. Additionally, the Nikon L100 is equipped with an image stabilizer.

Despite the fact that this Nikon Coolpix L100 is called an entry-level model Megazoom, the camera is reasonably fully equipped. Emphasis may be on the large optical range, but that certainly doesn't mean macro photography is of minor importance. The macro mode of the Nikon Coolpix L100 enables taking a picture as close as 1cm away from the object. Additionally, advanced automation is carried out, providing auto subject selection, smile mode and blink detection. The two latter features recognize automatically whether a smile is detected or when persons have their eyes closed.

The times of limited sensitivity ranges are definitely a thing of the past. Furthermore, the Nikon Coolpix L100 shows that high ISOs pictures are no longer a problem and provides choices up to 3200 ISO. Movements of the camera are automatically detected, as well as subject motions that are registered to prevent blur. This kind of security system in combination with a large zoom range and the ease of a compact camera, makes all-round photography child's play.

The Nikon Coolpix L100 sample pictures were taken in Artis zoo, Amsterdam, the Netherlands with a full production camera which means that this camera is equal to the model that the consumer can expect to purchase. Our DIWA camera test lab will soon test the Nikon L100 camera under laboratory circumstances from a technical viewpoint.
