New Olympus digital cameras at PMA Show in Las Vegas : The Olympus booth at the PMA 2009 show is quite well-arranged and provides a lot of space to give a complete camera overview. Striking is the fact that the Olympus E-620 is actually the only real new digital SLR camera of the entire show, which is of course very nice for Olympus. As a result, there was even more interest in the compact E-620. I myself had the opportunity to make several sample pictures in between my busy schedule, on the Strip in Las Vegas. And the first impression of this camera is a good one. It's compact and has features that are directly copied from the semiprofessional E-30 which makes it so pleasant to shoot with it.

Olympus FourThirds camera system
The fact that the FourThirds DSLR assortment has grown over the last few years is nicely showcased by Olympus. And all the products are available; from wide-angle to an impressive bright telephoto lens. I did wonder a bit about the claim by Olympus to provide the fastest autofocus in the world, according to huge posters and giant billboards outside the Convention Center. I cannot recall what this claim is based on and whether or not it is still actual. One thing is for sure; you can't say Olympus lacks self-confidence!
Olympus Micro Four Thirds camera concept
One single showcase with the famous Micro FourThirds concept is placed prominently at the front of the Olympus booth. The only thing that is said about it, is that it will be introduced in the summer of 2009. Official specifications are not yet available, and Olympus keeps its lips sealed when it comes to Micro Four Thirds. Of course, the brand has more than enough experience with non-communication like this; at the time of developing the Olympus E-3, the same procedure was followed. Lips sealed and not a word to the outside world.
New Olympus compact cameras
A lot of attention went to the new compact camera assortment of Olympus. Solidness in combination with shockproof and waterproof housings has now reached a special status in the form of the Mju TOUGH or Stylus TOUGH for the American market. During many demonstrations, these features were shown. The features don't aim so much at a specific target group, such as outdoor sportsmen, but do come in handy in practice. We've all experienced a small compact camera falling out of our pocket or hands at some time, however; the Olympus TOUGH camera endures it all patiently.
Olympus Mju Tough camera
If we stand still for a moment and look at the Olympus camera line, we find an extremely extensive series with cameras for every target group. An exceptionally smart line describes it best, from entry-level FE model to the Mju design cameras, from the solid yet elegant TOUGH camera series to the Megazoom with no less than 26x zoom. And to top it off; the line includes a mature digital SLR series of cameras with the Micro FourThirds camera with exchangeable lens as the icing on the cake. In short; Olympus seems to be ready to roll!
