NikonLas Vegas picture gallery : At the beginning of this year, Nikon introduced a new lens specifically designed for DX format cameras. Yet, thanks to the DX support, it is also possible to use the new AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G in combination with Nikon FX DSLR cameras. During my visit to the PMA in Las Vegas, I took the wide-angle lens along and used it in combination with the Nikon D3x. Two extremes, but with extensive Nikon support for Nikon products mutually, just as we have come to expect from Nikon. The Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G lens provides a maximum aperture of f/1.8 for a nicely blurred background with a very small depth of field. What's more, the length of the lens does not change while focusing.

A rounded diaphragm opening combined with the seven-blade aperture contributes to a substantially more circular bokeh for a more natural appearance of out-of-focus background elements than similar lenses without rounded diaphragm. When mounted on a DX format camera such as the Nikon D90, D60 or D40, the Nikon AF-S 35mm lens provides a focal length of 50mm (1.5x focal length multiplier). The focal length will remain the same in combination with a full-frame DSLR like the Nikon D3x, D3 and D700 cameras.

The Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G has a nice finishing, and thanks to a rubber seal it is even water resistant up to a certain extent. The risk of moisture (not running water) entering is kept to a minimum. The shortest focus range is 30 cm. All in all, it is a most interesting additional lens, and the focal length for both types of DSLR cameras, DX and FX, and in combination with the bright f1.8, offers the user all-round possibilities.

The Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G sample photos were taken with a full production lens which means that this lens is equal to the model that the consumer can expect to purchase. Our DIWA camera test lab will soon test the AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G lens under laboratory circumstances from a technical viewpoint. The Nikon AF-S 35mm f/1.8G sample pictures are taken in Las Vegas, US. The pictures in this article have been reduced to enable correct reproduction and compressed to ensure a faster loading time.
