 Panasonic LUMIX DMC-TZ7 test photos : During a Panasonic press event, held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, I was given the opportunity to use the new Panasonic LUMIX DMC-TZ7. The Panasonic LUMIX TZ7 is Panasonic's flagship of the new assortment LUMIX digital cameras for the upcoming season. It is the successor to the TZ5 and Panasonic's hope to continue the successful Travel Zoom series. The specifications aren't bad at all upon first glance. Whereas the TZ5 distinguished itself by featuring a 10x optical zoom in a compact housing, the Panasonic TZ7 even surpasses this with a 12x zoom! This is enough to reach a range of 25-300mm (35mm equivalent) without any effect on the compact size.

In addition to the enhanced zoom range, the Panasonic LUMIX TZ7 uses a 25mm LEICA DC VARIO ELMAR ultra wide-angle lens and a so-called 'multi-aspect' CCD image sensor. The Panasonic TZ7 features a 12 Megapixel CCD, however, it shoots in a resolution with a maximum of 10 Megapixels. The remaining part of the sensor is used to support shooting in three image ratios (4:3, 3:2 or 16:9) retaining the focal range of 25-300mm. With this innovative solution, Panasonic distinguishes itself from its rivals.

Another feature which puts the Panasonic DMC-TZ7 in a unique position is the option to capture long video clips in High Definition quality. What's even more special is that the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-TZ7 uses the AVCHD Lite format. On top of that, the LUMIX TZ7 offers Dolby Digital Stereo Creator to capture high quality audio so motion images can be accompanied by stereo sound. The appearance of the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-TZ7 has changed only slightly, although its dimensions and weight have decreased. The specifications of the Panasonic LUMIX TZ7 camera seem to open doors to yet another successful sales season.

The Panasonic LUMIX TZ7 sample photos were taken with a full production camera which means that this camera is equal to the model that the consumer can expect to purchase. Our DIWA camera test lab will soon test the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-TZ7 megazoom camera under laboratory circumstances from a technical viewpoint.
