 Samsung PL65 digital camera : Samsung announces a new point-and-shoot digital camera, the PL65 - also known as Samsung SL620 in the USA. Stylish and advanced, the 12.2 megapixel Samsung PL65 allows consumers to experience higher-end features and performance at more affordable prices. Samsung’s new PL65 features a standard 35mm lens. The PL65 offers users a powerful 5x optical zoom paired with Optical and Digital Image Stabilization. Shooters have the option of simply using Optical Image Stabilization to help reduce blur caused by hand shake, which is ideal for well lit environments. Or, users can choose Dual Image Stabilization and combine the strengths of Optical and Digital Image Stabilization.

Samsung PL65 features a 3" LCD
Dual Image Stabilization is ideal for low-light environments and is activated automatically where the use of a flash is not desired. The Samsung PL65 digital camera also boasts a large three inch LCD screen for composing shots and reviewing photos and video. The new Samsung PL65 also offers users advanced MPEG-4 video recording at a resolution of 640x480. Consumers can use the 5x optical zoom and Optical Image Stabilization while recording video.
Samsung PL65 offers a high price quality ratio
“As the bar for digital cameras continues to be set higher, Samsung remains committed to introducing the most advanced intelligence features at an affordable price point,” said ChoongHyun Hwang, vice president of Strategic Marketing at Samsung Digital Imaging Company. “The new Samsung PL65 offers a longer zoom, larger LCD screen and video - which are all features traditionally associated with higher-priced and higher-end digital cameras.”
Smart Auto mode on the Samsung PL65
The Samsung PL65 offers an array of automatic controls, including Samsung’s Smart Auto mode. When in use, Smart Auto will automatically choose from one of the cameras’ 11 “scene modes,” selecting the most appropriate mode for the shooter’s environment. For example, if the user is taking a photo of a mountain range, Smart Auto will automatically select the “Landscape” scene mode. If the user proceeds to take a photo of an individual, Smart Auto will switch to the “Portrait” scene mode with no manual action required.
Samsung PL65 equipped with Smart Album program
In addition to Smart Auto, the Samsung PL65 also features Samsung’s proprietary Smart Album program, which allows users to search through the various files they have saved on their memory card for a specific image. Smart Album automatically organizes the user’s digital images and gives them the ability to narrow their search based on the date or month the image was taken, the file type, the overall color tone and whether it’s a photo, video, or voice memo.

Other automatic features found on the Samsung PL65 includes Face Detection, Blink Detection, Smile Shot, and Beauty Shot. Designed to help capture better portraits and group shots of family and friends, Face Detection technology detects up to nine faces and automatically adjusts focus and exposure to ensure better composition and image quality. Smile Shot automatically triggers the PL65 to take a photo only when a smile is detected on the subjects’ faces, and Blink Detection will automatically fire two consecutive shots if a subject’s eyes are closed. Beauty Shot is a progressive function that can automatically brighten and even out skin tones as well as remove blemishes.
Frame Guide feature on the Samsung PL65
The Samsung PL65 features Samsung’s new Frame guide feature which means you no longer need to rely on the technological capabilities of strangers for perfect holiday snaps. When you use the setting, the camera takes a ghost picture of your desired shot and displays a template when you pass the camera over to someone else - ensuring they take the picture you want them to take.

The Samsung PL65 will retail at £179 and comes in Black, Pink, Silver and Dark Grey. The Samsung PL65 will be available from March 2009 from leading high street and online retailers.
