OlympusOlympus E30 digital SLR camera review : With the introduction of the Olympus E30, a pro-consumer digital SLR camera becomes available by Olympus for the first time. The camera's target group are those users who don't really care for a solid housing that withstands all weather types, yet have strong demands when it comes to the specifications. The Olympus E30 was officially mentioned for the first time during the Photokina in September of this year. At that moment, the camera still only existed in beta status, however, it was introduced worldwide very fast in November and is now actually available.

Olympus E30 Body
Although at first glance, the Olympus E-30 looks quite similar when it comes to the appearance of the E-3, the housings do differ vastly. We find a number of new buttons, and other buttons have either been replaced or have disappeared all together. What stayed is the perfect hand-fit. With a handgrip that fits as a glove and an acceptable weight, the Olympus E30 digital SLR camera fits solidly and pleasantly in the hand. The buttons on the back of the camera next to the monitor are directly accessible with the thumb of your right hand, which adds to a swift operation.

A new digital SLR with a whole lot of possibilities
Once you use the Olympus E30 you will come to the conclusion that it offers a whole lot of possibilities. And yet, the inexperienced or non-Olympus photographer will build up a bond with the camera quite fast. The basis will be fairly familiar in general, and also the standard buttons will not lead to any questions. Diving into the menu will surprise you, while extensive and even unique possibilities will be found here. This requires using the manual for further exploring.

Olympus E30 review with DIWA Labs test
More than enough reason to try the new 12.3 Megapixel Olympus E30 in practice. We were very curious to learn about the improvements and differences between the E-520 and E-3 models; the two DSLR cameras that have the Olympus E-30 in their centre. Besides the test in practice, the Olympus E30 is also thoroughly tested in our DIWA Lab, where these products are put through standardized tests in the same lab circumstances. Our findings can be read in the following Olympus E30 review.
