 Archos 405 review : The Archos 405 multimedia player weighs approximately 190 grams and its dimensions are: 3.9 x 3 x 0.59 inches. The large 3.5 inch TFT LCD monitor with 16 million colours takes up most of the space. Five buttons on the right side are available to operate the 405. On top 2 LEDs are found, indicating when the device is activated (green) and the other to indicate that an order is being processed (red). Below, a row of buttons is found: the up button, left/right button, down button, OK button, Escape button and lastly the menu / option switch. The bottom of the Archos 405 carries the USB connection, microphone and an interface for the Archos DVR station Gen4 / Gen5 or other Archos accessories.

Archos 405 media speler
The Archos 405 is standard delivered with a protective pouch, a DVR adaptor holder, earplugs, a data cable and the necessary manuals. It is sufficient to get started, and nearly all the functions become available. 'Nearly' because the DVR station should be purchased separately online just like a large number of various other accessories. Even an adaptor to prevent charging the Archos 405 through a pc has to be purchased online. I find this regrettable, since it takes away a lot of the functionality of the standard package. You are almost forced to purchase accessories from the website in order to be able to fully obtain the product's functionality.
Media player test
This Archos Media Player has no less than 30GB of internal memory at its disposal. This holds approximately 10.000 pictures or 12,250 MP3 songs. A disadvantage I experienced is the fact that the multimedia player becomes rather warm after a while, and now and again it takes quite some time before videos, pictures and/or music appear on the monitor. It is not possible to enhance the memory capacity, still, you will find it hard to completely fill up 30GB. The playtime of the Archos 450 with a Li-Ion battery is approximately 12 hours of music and 4 hours of video in the most ideal circumstances. Charging the battery should be done through the USB cable connected to the PC or a separate (not included) external adapter. The media player reloads faster through an adapter, however, you will have to purchase this item yourself since it is not included.
Archos media player review
In general, the Archos 405 is a nice media player and 30GB of storage is excellent. Although I am moderately enthusiastic about the Archos 405, I do have a few remarks. To begin with; the device is a joy to the eye and it appears to be a hard drive with a monitor and buttons; it becomes interesting when the screen is activated. The video player is beyond comments; it is a beautiful function of Archos and the large screen keeps your attention until the end, no matter what movie you are watching.
