Sony A900 SLR review : Although being the only model in the DSLR assortment of Sony, the Alpha 100 was an amazing success. Simply ruling out all prejudice which sprung mainly from the more traditional world of photography. The consumer was 'ready' for a Sony digital SLR camera and its successor in 2007, the Alpha 700, that was introduced as a middle segment DSLR camera. Six months later, Sony launched a threesome new Alpha DSLR cameras (Alpha 200/300/350) with which Sony was able to deliver an entirely new line of Alpha cameras. Only one DSLR was missing in the line-up; the Sony A900, a high resolution DSLR camera that would establish Sony as a serious DSLR manufacturer belonging to the top 3 ranking. Sony A900 for the semi professional photographer
Even though the Sony Alpha 900 has professional features, it certainly is not a camera solely for the professional photographer. Also the advanced hobby photographer that wants to switch to semi or professional photography will probably consider the Sony A900. It is a huge step to switch from the amateur or middle segment to the A900. The price of high resolution full frame digital SLRs may have dropped since the announcement of the Sony Alpha 900, it is still a huge sum of money. However, it is more than just that. Take the housing of the A900, for instance.
24 megapixel Sony A900 DSLR camera
A DSLR camera such as the Sony Alpha 900 offers a lot, a heck of a lot, in fact. Yet this high quality DSLR still carries the familiar green button. The button that sets the camera in the auto pilot as it were. We don't want to know how many 'professional photographers' shoot in Auto mode, however, the amount would surprise you. Nevertheless, there is so much more you can get out of the A900. In addition to the impressive high resolution of 24.6 megapixels, the frame speed of 5 fps stands strongly. This figure suffices for average use, however, the action photographer will preferably use a DSLR with a minimum speed of 8fps. Other than that, the Sony Alpha 900 offers all the possibilities, providing the camera gets combined with the right lenses, of course.
Sony A900 review including a DIWA Labs test
We had the Sony DSLR-A900 in the office for a while and were able to test the camera thoroughly. In addition, a test sample of the Alpha 900 was technically extensively tested in our DIWA test lab. The results from these tests and the test in practice came together in a final conclusion that can be read in the following Sony A900 review.
