HasselbladHasselblad medium format photography : Two years ago, during the Photokina 2006, the Hasselblad H3D was introduced. A revolutionary new system which was Hasselblad's first step in the direction of affordable digital medium format photography. And although the prices were not yet that appealing two years ago for the majority of the professional photographers, it becomes clear during the Photokina 2008 that the introduction of two years ago did work out well. Prices can drop now that the first development costs seem to have broken even, and Hasselblad managed to introduce a couple of new cameras; the Hasselblad H3DII-39 and the H3DII50. The H3DII-50 is the first camera in the market equipped with Kodak's 50 megapixel sensor.

This image sensor measures 36x48mm which makes it twice as large as the 35mm DSLR sensor. The Hasselblad H3DII-50 has been developed with the commercial photographer requiring the highest image resolution in mind, who wants to be creative and flexible at the same time in order to achieve the ultimate image quality. The new Hasselblad H3DII-50 of the 48mm segment features the largest image sensor and the highest resolution, which makes this camera the flagship of Hasselblad. Still, Hasselblad claims that this is not the end of it; in 2009 the bar will be raised and the Hasselblad H3DII-60 will be introduced, a 60 megapixel version.

Hasselblad lenses for its medium format cameras
In addition to the two aforementioned digital medium format cameras, Hasselblad showed a number of lenses that are specifically developed for this system. This enhances the H3D system and Hasselblad shows a system that is all-round and complete, in other words; it is the perfect solution for the professional photographer. Hasselblad claimed to have taken a closer look at the prices of their products at the same time. The prices of the enhanced full frame DSLR cameras have recently dropped drastically and the assortment was enhanced considerably. This is a development that will continue, there's no stopping it. Including the step from a full frame high resolution DSLR to a digital medium sized camera system. To build a bridge for the price differences, Hasselblad has adjusted its prices. The H3DII-39 is available from $ 21.995,- and the H3DII-50 from $27.995,-. The Hasselblad H3DII-60 that is expected in April 2009 will have a price-tag of $35.495,-. The cameras are standard delivered including a Hasselblad 80mm lens.
