Samsung QLED TV sponsor of FIFA U-20 World Cup : The FIFA U-20 is the world cup for soccer players under the age of 20. This year the FIFA U-20 Championships will take place in South Korea. Among others Samsung is the official sponsor of this worldwide event. The big electronics giant uses her new Samsung QLED TV series to promote the championships through promotions and consumer participation events. QLED screen technology stands for quantum light emitting diode, these Samsung displays produce more beautiful and bright colors and offer longer life. On June 12, Samsung is also organizing a special marketing event, providing consumers with additional benefits when purchasing a QLED TV.

Korean headquarters reports Q1 2017 financial outlook : Samsung Electronics Korean headquarters has published financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2017. Samsung’s revenue for Q1 2017 was KRW 50.55 trillion, an total increase of KRW 0.77 trillion YoY, while operating profit for Q1 2017 was KRW 9.90 trillion, an increase of KRW 3.22 trillion YoY. In Q1 2017, global sales for the memory and display businesses increased, owing to high ASPs and strong sales of premium products. However, revenue from the mobile business decreased due to a decline in flagship product sales (also read: Chinese smartphone 2017 market report'). Profits were driven by the components businesses, namely the semiconductor division and the display panel segment.

Samsung premium products and Q1 2017 financial results : Samsung Electronics Korea has published their Q1 2017 financial report. The consumer division, including the Visual Display and Digital Appliances businesses, posted KRW 10.34 trillion in consolidated revenue and KRW 0.38 trillion in operating profit for Q1 2017. In the first quarter of 2017, the TV market is projected to decline QoQ due to weak seasonality as well as decreased demand in the European and Latin American markets. Although Samsung achieved sales growth and maintained its leading position in the premium market thanks to its high-end product line-ups including Quantum Dot TV and premium curved Smart TV, profit declined YoY due to increased panel prices and currency fluctuations.

Samsung Electronics Mobile division 2017 financial results : Samsung has reported strong sales in Q1 2017 and extended global leadership with the product launch of Galaxy S8 devices. The IM Division - comprising the Mobile Communications and Networks Businesses - posted KRW 23.50 trillion in consolidated revenue and KRW 2.07 trillion in operating profit in Q1 2017. While smartphone and tablet market demand saw a slight decrease quarter to quarter due to seasonal effects, cellular phone shipments for the mobile division slightly increased compared to Q4 2016. This increase was largely due to the newly released Galaxy A 2017 devices and solid sales in the mid- to low-end segment in emerging markets. However, overall profit for the division decreased due to price drop of Galaxy S7 mobile devices.

Samsung Display industry trends and 2017 financial results : Samsung Electronics Korea reports solid financial performance in Display Panel segment for Q1 2017. The Display Panel production and broadcast products sales posted KRW 7.29 trillion in consolidated revenue and KRW 1.30 trillion in operating profit for Q1 2017. For OLED, earnings improved YoY due to higher utilization rates driven by strong demand for OLED displays while also gaining QoQ due to increased shipments of flexible displays and strong demand for rigid OLED panels. For LCD, Samsung maintained solid earnings QoQ by increasing sales of large-size high-resolution panels under favorable supply and demand conditions. An expansion in the portion of value-added LCD products, particularly large-size 4K UHD panels, helped strengthen the financial results for Q1 2017.

Samsung Semiconductor Q1 2017 financial results & trends : Samsung Electronics Korea have posted financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2017. Samsung Semiconductor business posted KRW 6.31 trillion in operating profits on consolidated revenue of KRW 15.66 trillion for the quarter. Samsung improved earnings in the first quarter in both DRAM and NAND by focusing on high-density and value-added products for datacenters, enterprise Solid State Drives and Galaxy flagship phones flagship phones. Even amid slower demand due to weak seasonality compared with Q4 2016, the retail prices of memory products remained strong due to limited supply. For NAND, Samsung Semiconductor continued to post solid growth in the quarter by actively meeting demand for high-density server SSD over 4TB and mobile products over 64GB and by expanding 48-layer V-NAND supply.

AmirKabir University of Technology Iran : As part of a joint partnership between Samsung Electronics and the AmirKabir University of Technology (AUT) in Iran, the Samsung-AUT Tech Center was recently opened to support technology research and innovative projects, in addition to boosting education and employment prospects for students. Operating under the Samsung Corporate Citizenship series of programs, the center’s primary focus is on mobile application development within the health, environment and energy, education, and employment sectors. As part of its efforts, the center will provide logistical and technical support, as well as facilitate the development, production, and introduction of innovative and useful applications.

Samsung 10-nanometer process technology announcement : Samsung Electronics, a global leader in advanced semiconductor components and technology, officially announced that its second generation 10-nanometer (nm) FinFET process technology, 10LPP (Low Power Plus), has been qualified and is ready for mass production. With further enhancement in 3D FinFET structure, 10LPP allows up to 10-percent higher performance or 15-percent lower power consumption compared to the first generation 10LPE (Low-Power Early) process with the same area scaling. Samsung semiconductor was the first in the industry to begin mass production of system-on-chips (SoCs) products on 10LPE last October. The latest premium Galaxy S8 Android smartphones are powered by some of these semiconductor components.
