Samsung 5G New Radio technology

Samsung 5G New Radio trial successfully completed : SK Telecom and Samsung Electronics announced that they successfully completed a trial to deliver a 5G end-to-end connection based on 5G New Radio (NR) technology. Today’s trial represents the successful case of a 5G end-to-end connection, using the 3.5GHz spectrum, through virtualized core, radio and device based on 5G NR technology. The trial, which took place in Samsung’s R&D center in Suwon, was comprised of Samsung’s 5G virtualized core, virtualized RAN, Distributed Unit and test device that are based on the 3GPP NR standards elements established to date. The 3GPP Release 15 standard is expected to be completed around the end of 2017, and to date, technologies such as numerology, frame structure and channel coding have been defined in the 3GPP NR specification.


Samsung 5G Automotive Association

Samsung Electronics Elected to 5GAA board : Samsung Electronics proudly announced that it was elected to a board membership position following elections held at the recent 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) general meeting on May 11th, With the addition of Samsung, 5GAA will be better able to leverage the company’s industry leadership in telecommunications and recently acquired telematics and infotainment technologies. The Association will support and work in close cooperation with national and regional initiatives, such as the European Connected & Automated Driving Pre-Deployment Project. In addition to joining the 5GAA board, Samsung was also elected to serve as Vice-Chair of the 5GAA’s Working Group 4, which is responsible for exploring connected car-related standards and radio spectrum opportunities.


Nokia 5G IoT development in Saudi Arabia

Mobile Word 2017 Nokia 5G Internet of Things development : New agreement will enable 5G ioT technology in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Trial end-to-end 5G use cases during Hajj 2019 in live networks. Nokia and Zain KSA have signed a 2017 Memorandum of Understanding to work together on developing 5G technology and define a clear path toward building the next-generation ultra-broadband networks in Saudi Arabia. The companies will combine their expertise to develop use cases, requirements and deployment scenarios for 5G technologies. The MoU was signed at Mobile World 2017 by Peter Kaliaropoulos, Chief Executive Officer of Zain Saudi Arabia and Ashish Chowdhary, Chief Customer Operations Officer of Nokia.

Deutsche Telekom and Huawei showcase 5G Network Slicing : Huawei and Deutsche Telekom showed all cloud based 5G E2E network slicing demo including RAN, Transport and Core network on the opening day of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The joint demo is conducted in Deutsche Telekom’s 5G:haus lab based in Bonn, Germany, and aims to validate the global leading network slicing technology applied for the future-coming diversity 5G applications. In the past year, 5G is becoming the hottest topic. Both the players from tele-communication and vertical industries looking forward to the full connected world based on 5G. 5G era will provide 100Mbps user experienced data rate everywhere and ultra-low latency. The diversified requirements from new apps including Augmented & Virtual Reality, smart cars will be enabled by 5G E2E network slicing.


5G Automotive Association signs agreement in Europe

Mobile World 2017 Connected and Automated Driving : At the 2017 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) and the European Automotive Telecom Alliance (EATA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. Aim of this partnership is to foster cooperation in the field of connected and autonomous driving solutions as well as standardisation, spectrum and related use cases. 5GAA includes 33 members, of which 8 are founding members (Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Ericsson, Huawei, Intel, Nokia and Qualcomm). EATA is comprised of six leading associations and 38 companies at present, including telecom operators, vendors, automobile manufacturers and suppliers for both cars and trucks. The main objective of the Alliance is to promote the wide deployment of hybrid connectivity for connected and automated driving in Europe.

Qualcomm unveils 5G New Radio prototype system

2017 Mobile World Congress Press Releases : Qualcomm Showcases 5G Leadership with its First 3GPP-based 5G New Radio Connection. Qualcomm Technologies announced the Company’s first successful 5G connection based upon the New Radio (NR) work in 3GPP, which is expected to become the global 5G standard. The connection, which was completed utilizing Qualcomm Technologies’ sub-6 GHz 5G NR prototype system capable of operating at mid-band spectrum from 3.3 GHz to 5.0 GHz, demonstrates how advanced 5G New Radio technology can be utilized to efficiently achieve multi-gigabit-per-second data rates at significantly lower latency than today’s 4G LTE networks. The successful connection serves as a significant milestone towards rapid validation and the upcoming commercialization of 5G NR technologies at scale.


Turkcell and Ericsson 5G network test

Turkcell and Ericsson 5G network technologies : Turkcell is continuing its work on 5G technologies at full speed. Turkcell and Ericsson completed Turkey’s first ever 5G test, achieving download speeds of 24.7 Gbps on the 15 GHz spectrum, the broadest available. The 5G network test was also one of the first in the entire world. It is predicted that by 2020 there will be an average of 500 sensors in each home and that the number of smart devices connected to each other around the world will exceed 25 billion. 5G networks are expected to be among the most important technologies in delivering the high capacities required in such a world. Thanks to its Network Slicing feature, 5G also allows networks to allocate capacity and speed according to the different requirements of each home or even of individual rooms.
