Canon 250 Megapixel APS-H-Size CMOS Sensor

Mark Peters : 2015-09-09 11:20:00
Canon develops 250 Megapixel APS-H-Size CMOS Sensor : Canon Japan has developed an APS-H-size (approx. 29.2 x 20.2 mm) CMOS image sensor incorporating approximately 250 million pixels (19,580 x 12,600 pixels), the world’s highest number of pixels for a CMOS sensor smaller than the size of a 35mm full-frame sensor. When installed in one of Canon’s prototype cameras, the newly developed sensor was able to capture images enabling the distinguishing of lettering on the side of an airplane flying at a distance of approximately 11 miles (18 km) from the shooting location. The Canon 250 Megapixel APS-H-Size CMOS sensor enables the capture of ultra-high-pixel-count video at a speed of up to five frames per second.

16 Megapixel CMOS sensor for smartphones & tablets

Toshiba 16 Megapixel image sensor for smartphones & tablets : The world’s smallest class 16 megapixel chip also offers low power consumption. Toshiba Corporation announced the launch of “T4KC3”, a 16 megapixel (MP) BSI CMOS image sensor. Sample shipments are scheduled to start in September this year. In the mobile device market, manufacturers constantly target a small form factor; a thinner final product. Toshiba is meeting this need with a design method, already deployed in current products, that realizes smaller CMOS sensor chips and low-power circuits. That method has now resulted in the world’s smallest class 16MP chip, which also realizes 30fps at full-resolution output with power consumption of 240mW or lower.
