SanDisk acquires MusicGremlin : SanDisk Corporation, a leading seller of MP3 players in the United States and inventor of flash memory, announced it has acquired MusicGremlin, a privately-held technology company that develops advanced digital content distribution technologies. The acquisition falls under SanDisk’s Sansa audio / video business unit. “MusicGremlin’s digital distribution platform and capabilities will provide SanDisk with adaptive and innovative technology that will play a key role in the development of future SanDisk Sansa audio products for consumers,” said Daniel Schreiber, general manager and senior vice president for SanDisk’s Sansa audio / video business unit.

Toshiba helps damaged forests : Toshiba America announced a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation to plant 80,000 trees in Southern California national forest areas damaged by wildfires last October. A check will be presented Friday by Toru Uchiike, TAI’s chairman and CEO, to John Rosenow, founder and chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation, at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. Next spring, Toshiba volunteers will assist the Arbor Day Foundation in planting the new trees to help replace those lost to the fires. The tree planting will help prevent soil runoff and the growth of invasive plant species, while better protecting local watersheds and restoring indigenous forest habitats for wildlife.

Frontier Inkjet Solution at Ritz Camera Centers : Fujifilm announced that Ritz Camera Centers, the largest specialty camera chain in the USA with approximately 1,000 locations, is enhancing its print technology with the introduction of Fujifilm’s Frontier Dry Minilab 400 Inkjet Printers throughout a number of its centers. The Frontier Dry Minilab 400 is the latest Frontier inkjet printing system that delivers Frontier quality prints with the combination of Fujifilm’s High Quality Dry Photo Paper, inks and Fujifilm’s Image Intelligence technology. “Ritz Camera has always been focused on providing high quality photos with personalized service to our customers,” said Rich Tranchida, executive vice president, Ritz Camera Centers.

SanDisk expands market presence in India : SanDisk Corporation, announced plans to increase market presence and diversify product offerings in India. SanDisk’s expansion plans reflect the country’s growing demand for flash memory cards that are used in mobile phones, digital cameras, and digital music players, as well as new markets, such as digital camcorders and Solid State Drives (SSDs), which replace hard drives in notebook computers. The company is the market share leader for flash memory cards and is capitalizing on its advanced Design Center in Bangalore and local distributor relationships to increase product offerings and brand awareness.

Tessera acquires FotoNation : Tessera Technologies, provider of miniaturisation technologies for the electronics industry, announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire FotoNation, provider of embedded imaging solutions for digital still camera and mobile phone applications. With this acquisition, Tessera will expand its portfolio of integrated consumer optics solutions and be positioned to become a 'one-stop shop' for a full range of camera imaging technologies. Tessera will pay $29 million in net cash with up to $10 million of additional consideration, contingent upon certain milestones over one year. This transaction is subject to various standard closing conditions and is expected to close in February 2008.

Matsushita Electric becomes Panasonic Corporation : Matsushita Electric, best known for its Panasonic brand, announced that the company will change its company name to 'Panasonic Corporation' effective October 1, 2008. The company will also unify its corporate brands to the 'Panasonic' brand. The change, that was approved at the company's extraordinary board meeting today, will be submitted for and subject to approval at its ordinary general meeting of shareholders to be held in late June this year. The name change and brand unification is a bold step forward to make the company a truly global corporation, in which its corporate value can be enhanced with united efforts by all the employees focused on the 'Panasonic' brand worldwide.
