Toshiba files lawsuit in Germany

Toshiba files lawsuit in Germany : Toshiba Corporation announced that the Company filed a lawsuit in Germany against a German disc replicator of DVD discs. The suit was brought to the Dusseldorf Regional Court against EDD Bizz GmbH and its managing director, Mr. Denny Holwerda, as a means to halt infringement of some of Toshiba's DVD patents. Toshiba seeks injunctive relief and declaration that EDD is liable for damages resulting from its infringement of Toshiba's DVD patents. Toshiba licenses patents essential for meeting DVD format specifications. EDD has not entered into license agreements with Toshiba or the DVD6C Licensing Group, and has engaged in the manufacture and sales of DVD video discs in Germany without permission.

Toshiba 4GB microSDHC card : Toshiba Corporation, a leading innovator in memory card solutions, today expanded its line of small-format, high-speed, high-capacity memory cards with the announcement of the launch of a 4-gigabyte (GB) microSDHC card. The addition of the new card extends Toshiba’s comprehensive range of microSDHC cards, the preferred memory card for mobile phone applications, from 256MB up to 4GB. The new cards will be available worldwide from July. Toshiba’s 4GB microSDHC card meets SD memory card standard Ver. 2.00, the SD card standard for high density SD products with a capacity of over 2GB. The card is designed for use in dedicated microSDHC slots, but can also be used in standard SDHC card slots in an adapter.

NAND flash with three dimensional cell array : Toshiba Corporation announced a new three dimensional memory cell array structure that enhances cell density and data capacity without relying on advances in process technology, and with minimal increase in the chip die size. In the new structure, pillars of stacked memory elements pass vertically through multi-stacked layers of electrode material and utilize shared peripheral circuits. The innovative design is a potential candidate technology for meeting future demand for higher density NAND flash memory. Typically, advances in memory density reflect advances in process technology. Toshiba's new approach is based on innovations in the stacking process.

Toshiba HD DVD Rewritable Drive for Mobile PCs : Toshiba Storage Device Division (SDD) announced the world’s first slim HD DVD-RW drive for mobile PCs, further extending HD recording capabilities to the IT arena. The drive can read, write and rewrite to HD DVD-RW discs and write to HD DVD-R discs and DVD & CD discs. Toshiba’s SD-L912A enables mobile PCs to replace desktop systems in the home with this additional HD functionality. The drive allows backup of large-capacity PC hard disk drives to the reusable format of HD DVD-RW discs and provides capabilities to store data-rich, HD digital content.
