Photography course at University of Central England : A brand new photography course is starting in September 2007 at UCE Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD). The course - MA Photography: Documentary Practice - is aimed at students who have completed a first degree in photography and wish to study the subject in depth. It will be a strong addition to the courses already on offer through the Department of Visual Communication, which has a long tradition of delivering photography on both its undergraduate and postgraduate courses. “MA Photography: Documentary Practice is about engaging with those debates, through practice and examining such issues as the integrity of the photographic image in the digital age.”

Kodak partners with DSG : Eastman Kodak Company announced a partnership with electronics retailing giant DSG international plc, to exclusively supply the new Kodak All-In-One inkjet printers in the UK market through DSGi’s PC World, Currys and Currys.digital outlets. DSGi - also known as Dixons - will carry the new Kodak inkjet printers starting in June. “We dedicate considerable resources to identifying original new products for our outlets and we believe the Kodak EasyShare All-in-One Printers not only offer consumers the freedom to print documents and photos frequently, easily and affordably, they also have a pioneering quality which will appeal to our customers,” said Peter Duncombe, buying director, DSG international plc.

HP Nanoscale electronic devices : HP announced that it is beginning to reap returns from its 10-year investment in nanoscale electronics with the licensing of technology that could enable the fabrication of semiconductor chips significantly more powerful than those available today. The technology involves a process called nanoimprint lithography (NIL) - a method of literally stamping out patterns of wires less than 50 atoms wide on a substrate. HP Labs researchers have created patented NIL technology, which has enabled the fabrication of laboratory prototype circuits with wire widths of 15 nanometers - about one-third the dimension of the features in the most advanced circuits that will be commercially available this year.

Hitachi hosts Japan teachers in North America : Hitachi America, a subsidiary of Hitachi Japan, announced that four teachers from Japan will take part in an educational and cultural exchange venue in North America as part of Hitachi’s long-standing International School Teachers Exchange Program (HISTEP) that began in 1987. The school teachers exchange program provides educators from the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and Japan with the opportunity to experience each other’s educational system and society, and promote the open exchange of ideas between cultures. Blu ray disc Sales : Blu-ray Disc has become the first high definition format to sell more than one million discs, a milestone it has achieved in less than a year. Blu ray Disc sales also accounted for 70% of the HD movies sold during the first quarter of 2007, according to sales figures published today by Home Media Research. Blu-ray’s sales lead has increased each month since the first of the year and nearly three out of every four high-definition movies sold in March were on Blu-ray Disc, according to the HMR sales figures. Industry projections suggest that this steady growth trend will continue based on the fact that seven of the eight major studios are releasing an increasing number of blockbuster movies on Blu ray Disc.
