Sigma at PMA 2007

Mark Peters : 2007-03-25 19:01:00
Sigma at PMA 2007 : For Sigma, the latest Photokina has been an important event. Not only for them being a lens manufacturer but also a camera manufacturer. At that time Sigma introduced the Sigma SD14, a digital SLR camera based on the deviated Foveon X3 image sensor. Besides that Sigma introduced the DP1 digital compact camera that has been equipped with the Foveon image sensor. Not one of these cameras had reached the final stage then and the availability of the Sigma SD14 was even postponed. But at the PMA 2007 Sigma announced the availability of the Sigma SD14 digital SLR and the first results are starting to appear here and there on a users forum and on different web sites of the true Sigma lovers.

Sigma APO 200-500mm hands on

Dennis Hissink : 2007-03-10 19:42:00
Sigma APO 200-500mm hands on : Well sort of… I was visiting the Sigma booth and was confronted with this huge, and I mean really huge new Sigma tele zoom lens; the new Sigma APO 200-500mm F2.8 EX DG lens. And those of you who still want to travel light after purchasing this new baby; forget it. This new Sigma lens has a weight of around 15 kilos and well the picture says it all. Sigma showcased a pre-production model of the Sigma APO 200-500mm lens but nevertheless attracted a huge crowed of people. Who said size doesn't matter? This lens is coming with a dedicated APO 2.0x tele converter 2x EX DG II so it becomes an impressive, large aperture 400-1000mm F5.6 AF Ultra-Telephoto Zoom lens.

Sigma DP1

Nic Rossmüller : 2007-03-08 16:00:02
Sigma DP1 : Sigma announces the launch of the Sigma DP1 using three silicon embedded layers of photo sensors stacked to take advantage of silicon’s ability to absorb red, green and blue light at different respective depths. The size of image sensor used in DP1 camera is approximately 10 times larger than those used in an ordinary point and shoot camera. Large size image sensor takes advantage of larger pixels. So far point and shoot digital cameras incorporated small size image sensors, and researches for increasing the number of pixels by keeping the image sensor small is still continuing. However, there are limitations in these researches, because keeping image sensor size small will result poor capture of the light poorly.

Sigma APO 200-500mm F2.8 EX DG

Nic Rossmüller : 2007-03-08 16:00:01
Sigma APO 200-500mm F2.8 EX DG lens : The Sigma APO 200-500mm F2.8 EX DG is the world’s first Ultra-Telephoto Zoom Lens that offers a fast aperture of F2.8 at 500mm focal length. It covers the widely used 200 to 500mm focal length range, and maintains its fast F2.8 aperture over the entire zoom range. Four SLD glass elements provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations and produce a high level of optical performance throughout the entire zoom range. Shooting distance and focal length can be viewed on the lens’ LCD panel, which is an additional convenience for the photographer. A filter can be inserted towards the rear of the lens, and a circular polarizing filter can be used with its ingenious rotation mechanism.
