Samsung Independent Film Program : Samsung Electronics America announced its corporate commitment to independent films and its support of independent filmmakers. Based on the campaign theme True Vision Should Lose Nothing in Translation, Samsung has created a three-tiered independent film program that brings filmmakers’ true vision to life for consumers by giving them a “behind the scenes” look into select films. In an effort to further Samsung’s commitment to independent film, Samsung will launch a competition for up and coming filmmakers whose films do not yet have distribution. Samsung along with Landmark Theatres’ Truly Indie program will provide the selected film with marketing support and distribution in five top markets.

Samsung 300mm NAND flash memory wafer plant : Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., announced the opening of the largest 300mm NAND flash memory wafer plant in Austin, Texas on Thursday, in ceremonies that included Texas Governor Rick Perry and Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman & CEO Jong-Yong Yun. The 1.6 million square foot building - as large as nine football fields and one of the largest buildings in Austin - is one of the largest single semiconductor facilities in the United States. The first product of the new plant will be 16Gb NAND flash chips using 50-nanometer level process technology. The $3.5 billion facility will initiate operation in the second half of 2007 and ramp up to produce 60,000 wafers per month by 2008.

Samsung HDTV on royal Caribbean and Celebrity crouse : Samsung Electronics, a global leader in LCD and HDTV technology, is expanding its alliance with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. with the intention of supplying state-of-the-art LCD televisions for the company’s ever-growing fleet, which includes the highly-anticipated Genesis class of ships. Genesis will be forty percent larger than the Freedom-class of ships which are currently the largest in the world. Samsung anticipates nearly 10,000 of the latest LCD HDTVs will be placed throughout five of the company's newest ships through 2010 including specially designed Silver LCD TVs on the ships, demonstrating Samsung's dedication to providing customized solutions whenever possible.

Samsung OneNAND flash memory : Samsung, announced that it produced 117 million units in 512 megabit equivalents of its OneNAND Flash fusion memory in 2006, a 130 percent increase in production volume from 2005. “OneNAND’s enormous popularity allows it to stand tall as the most compelling value proposition in the industry. By offering much higher performance and significantly lower overall cost than conventional memory solutions, we have tapped into very strong and growing customer demand,” said John R. Cerrato, Vice President, Global Account Sales, Samsung Semiconductor. The popular device is the first fusion memory chip, a device that fuses a single-level-cell NAND core with SRAM and logic elements to emulate a NOR Flash interface.

New president of Samsung information technology : Samsung Electronics, a global leader in semiconductor, telecommunication, digital media and digital convergence technologies, announced Jai Hoon (“JH”) Kim has been appointed to president of Samsung’s Information Technology Division, which is based in Irvine, Calif. Kim’s career with Samsung has spanned more than 20 years and has provided him with vast knowledge of international marketing and global management, as well as proven strategic leadership working closely with research and development to develop, plan and foster growth for new products. Kim was most recently vice president of strategic marketing for displays, Samsung Electronics, Inc. in Korea, where he spent six years.

Samsung K5 digital audio players gift : Samsung and The Starkey Hearing Foundation teamed up to give the gift of hearing and music to 200 children in the greater South Florida area. Yesterday, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, the Starkey Hearing Foundation and Samsung Electronics presented children with their personally fitted hearing aids along with Samsung K5 digital audio players collectively valued at over $1,000,000. These special children received their gifts from stars such as Leslie Nielsen, Marion Ross, Paul Williams, Extreme Makeover Home Edition’s Eduardo Xol and former Miss America Heather Whitestone McCallum in addition to a pair of NFL greats from the 1985 Chicago Bears Super Bowl team Shaun Gayle and Emery Moorehead.
