Samsung 160GB Hard Disc Drive : Samsung Electronics, a leader in digital consumer electronics and information technology, announced that its highest-capacity-yet 1.8inch Hard Disk Drives (HDD) are playing a dominant role in leading the growth of the mobile storage market. IT and consumer product companies are building new multimedia products built around our 1.8inch HDD storage medium, which is smaller than a business card but packs 160 GB capacity at 4200 RPM. “The 1.8inch HDD market will grow at a tremendous pace with annual sales expected to increase up to 65% by 2010 as consumers demand smaller, more compact technology devices,” states Andrew Higginbotham, director of hard drive sales and marketing, Samsung Semiconductor Inc.

"We see sharply increasing interest in SSDs among OEMs worldwide amid a growing push to launch premium SSD-based notebooks, particularly in the ultra-mobile category," said Jim Elliott, director, flash marketing, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. SSDs feature far greater reliability, faster boot times and faster application start-up times than hard disk drives. SSD can also improve battery life by up to 20 percent in notebooks.

Samsung SpinPoint 160GB hard drive : Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a worldwide leader in digital consumer electronics and information technology, announced its new 160GB hard drive using 2.5” disks. Capacity of the single-disk platform ranges between 60 and 160GB, while a dual-disk model is under development that will provide up to 250GB of storage space. Samsung has already shipped test samples of the SpinPoint M5 Series to OEM vendors and plans to begin mass production in mid-April. The SpinPoint M5 series utilizes perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology, and the disk drive design has been optimized to allow ultra-precision adjustment of the head parking ramp position for high-density recording.

Samsung SpinPoint silent hard drive : Samsung Electronics announced its new SpinPoint S166 Series of ultra silent and high-speed hard disk drives. The 3.5” SpinPoint S166 hard drives are currently shipping in 80GB and 160GB capacities and will be available worldwide in April. The new SpinPoint S Series of hard drives offer upgraded versions of Samsung’s proprietary SilentSeek and NoiseGuard technologies to accelerate operational speed while reducing noise. Benchmarking tests on sound power have shown that competing hard drives (80GB and 160GB models) generate on average 2.8 bel (1 bel = 10 decibels) in idle mode and 3.2 bel in seek mode, while Samsung’s S166 series generate just 2.4 bel and 2.75 bel respectively.

Samsung’s MH80 Series hybrid hard drive is offered in 80GB, 120GB and 160GB capacities. The MH80 hybrid hard drive is currently shipping to select OEM customers and will soon be available in retail and commercial outlets. Samsung’s sleek new 1.8-inch N-series features 20GB, 30GB, 40GB and 60GB per disk capacities - the largest one-disk storage capacity offered by any drive on the market today. Samsung’s 1.8-inch N-series is currently shipping. Samsung’s new 60GB 1.8-inch hard disk can store data equivalent to 60 135-minute movies, 1,500 40MB music videos, or 15,000 4MB MP3 music files. Samsung’s 1.8-inch N-series hard disk drives are available in both internal and external HDD type.
