Railway museum photos taken with Nikon CoolPix P5000

Dennis Hissink : 2007-05-14 20:15:00
Railway museum photos taken with Nikon CoolPix P5000 : When testing the Nikon Coolpix P5000 digital compact camera, I took it along when I visited a piece of Dutch railway history, the Railway museum in Utrecht. The Railway museum is located in the Maliebaan station and gives visitors a glimpse of the past. Most of the test pictures were taken inside the museum, including a large depot where diverse trains stand established. The lighting conditions were full of contrast; darkness between the trains with spots of sunlight from the roof here and there. Although the Nikon Coolpix P5000 compact camera has an optical image stabilizer, I had to use a high ISO regularly to achieve the desired shutter speed or aperture.

Olympus SP-550 UZ review at DigiCamReview

Mark Peters : 2007-05-14 18:28:00
Olympus SP-550 UZ review at DigiCamReview : Our friend Joshua Waller from DigiCamReview has published his Olympus SP-550 UZ Megazoom digital camera review. The Olympus SP550 spans a focal length of an amazing 28-504mm (35mm camera equivalent). With an 18x wide zoom lens (equivalent to 28-504mm on a 35mm camera) there’s no need to disturb a subject, whether it be an animal wandering through the wilderness or people lounging in a city park. Since telephoto shots can be more prone to blur caused by camera shake, the Olympus SP-550 UZ Megazoom camera features Dual Image Stabilization to help deliver the clearest results possible. With a 6.4cm LCD it’s easy to frame and capture shots without having to do a crazy stunt.

Pentax K10D review at PhotographyBLOG

Mark Peters : 2007-05-14 18:27:00
Pentax K10D review at PhotographyBLOG : DIWA member Mark Goldstein from PhotographyBLOG has reviewed the Pentax K10D digital SLR camera. The Pentax K10D combines 10.2 effective Megapixels with a host of advanced technologies, including the Pentax-original Shake Reduction (SR) system, to deliver high-quality digital SLR photography and responsive operations to advanced amateurs and experienced hobbyists. The Dust Removal system keeps dust off the CCD surface. The Shake Reduction system is an innovative mechanism that shifts the position of the CCD image sensor vertically and horizontally at high speed using magnetic force, while adjusting the shifting speed in proportion to the amount of camera shake detected by a built-in sensor.

Nikon P5000 review at Photoxels

Mark Peters : 2007-05-14 18:24:00
Nikon P5000 review at Photoxels : DIWA member Yin Wong from Photoxels has reviewed the Nikon Coolpix P5000 digital camera. A light sensitivity range up to ISO 3200 also enables the Nikon P5000 to capture quality images of fast-moving subjects or poorly-lit scenes. ISO 3200 is available only for image sizes of 5M (2592 x 1944) or smaller. The Nikon Coolpix P5000 compact camera comes equipped with the 36-126mm Zoom-Nikkor lens which delivers excellent results when shooting anything from portrait to panorama, but this can be swapped for the Telephoto Converter lens which extends the reach of the zoom to 378mm for long-distance shots, or the Wide-angle Converter lens which realizes a focal length of 24mm.

Olympus E-410 Test with photo samples

Dennis Hissink : 2007-04-22 14:28:00
Olympus E-410 Test with photo samples : Last year, Olympus gave the starting shot for a new FourThirds SLR concept and the first real digital compact SLR - the Olympus E-400 DSLR - was born. Unfortunately it was only the European continent that was so lucky to get acquainted with this model, as all the other continents were left out. This year Olympus made up for it all with the introduction of two new digital SLR cameras just before the PMA 2007 in Las Vegas kicked off, among them the new Olympus E-410. I had already been introduced to this camera during my visit to the PMA and thanks to a fast cooperation with Olympus we are able to carry out a full test on the Olympus E410 SLR very shortly after its introduction.

Fujifilm FinePix S9600 review with test photos

Dennis Hissink : 2007-04-22 14:26:00
Fujifilm FinePix S9600 review with test photos : Since some time, Fujifilm has two Megazoom cameras in its program. One, the FinePix S6500fd, has been produced to target the average consumer. The other, the Fujifilm FinePix S9600, has been intended for the more serious photographer and offers, for that reason, other possibilities than the FinePix S6500fd. The Fujifilm S9600 succeeds the FinePix S9500. There aren't many changes in regards to the previous model. The image quality has been improved, the Fujifilm FinePix S9600 Megazoom camera is equipped with a larger LCD monitor and an auto focus for faster focus under low light circumstances and there are improvements in the flash. The number of Megapixels remains the same.

Ricoh GX100 test photos at Keukenhof Holland

Dennis Hissink : 2007-04-22 14:25:00
Ricoh Caplio GX100 test photos : We have had the new Ricoh Caplio GX100 camera in the office for some days and visited the Keukenhof in Lisse, the Netherlands, to shoot some test images. The Ricoh GX100 was introduced in March 2007 and is like its predecessor - the Ricoh Caplio GX8 - an unique digital compact camera. The Ricoh Caplio GX100 is equipped with a ten Megapixel CCD image sensor, a f/2.5 bright zoom lens with a focal range of 24 - 70mm. Additional the beautiful wide-angle of 24mm can be expanded via the optional Ricoh DW-6 wide-angle converter. With it, it becomes a 19mm super wide-angle! Unfortunately this accessory was not available at this moment, but I expect to make some extra shots with such a combination very soon.

Kodak V705 review with panoramic photos

Dennis Hissink : 2007-04-12 22:02:00
Kodak V705 review with panoramic test photos : Just before the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) started in 2006, Kodak introduced its first dual lens digital camera; de Kodak V570. Its successor, the Kodak EasyShare V705 was announced just over six months later and will be the subject of the following digital camera review. Although a dual lens camera, the Kodak V610, has appeared in the meantime, this turned out to be a camera with the emphasis on tele range (10x optical) instead of 5x optical as with the Kodak V570. The extra wide-angle range of 23mm in particular, a rare exception in a compact camera, makes the Kodak EasyShare V705 an interesting digital camera. The Kodak V705 is currently available for around $250 US dollars.

Artis Zoo Nikon D40x test images

Dennis Hissink : 2007-04-07 00:25:00
Artis Zoo Nikon D40x Test images : We have just received a sample of the Nikon D40x SLR camera in combination with the new AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED lens. The new Nikon D40x and the lens were introduced just a few days before the PMA 2007 in Las Vegas opened. The Nikon D40x is the big brother in terms of resolution, ISO setting, energy consumption and continuous shooting speed, and is designed as a twin brother of the D40 DSLR camera. The lens is a great combination with the Nikon D40x. It focuses quite fast and of course the Vibration Reduction feature helps the photographer to prevent blurring while tele-shooting. Additional the Nikon D40x offers high ISO up to 3200 resulting into high shutter speeds.

Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd review

Dennis Hissink : 2007-04-01 23:00:00
Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd review : One thing became very clear with Fujifilm, at the Photokina 2006: face detection is going to be it! And the technique is ready to be built in cameras standard. With this, Fujifilm can fall back on their extensive knowledge of minilabs. There, the technique has been used for years, among other things, to be able to tune colours perfectly. One of the first models with face detection is the Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd. The indication fd stands for face detection. The sensor is building another very important part of the Real Photo Technology. Fujifilm has been using the Super CCD for a long time, and the Fujifilm S6500fd has been equipped with the 6th generation already, the Super CCD VI HR.

Kodak EasyShare P712 review

Dennis Hissink : 2007-03-28 00:00:01
Kodak EasyShare P712 Megazoom review : During the previous years, Kodak EasyShare digital cameras have built a fine reputation. Kodak had to make a lot of effort to complete the switch from analogue to digital, and it seems like they finally did, more or less. In any case, with the current camera selection, one doesn't think of the era of analogue (film) anymore. So far, Kodak has not been able to score a dominant position with its EasyShare digital camera assortment. In certain parts of the world, like the US, Kodak has no reason to complain; but in Europe, for instance, the market share is not very impressing (yet). The recent Kodak EasyShare P712 has to contribute in winning a larger share.

Pentax K10D review

Dennis Hissink : 2007-03-20 23:30:00
Pentax K10D digital SLR review : After having produced several models in the cheaper classes of digital SLR cameras, Pentax is now aiming at (semi) professional photographers. It's not a completely new market for Pentax, as they used to be one of the leading brands of camera manufacturers. Pentax has a lot of catching up to do with the digital market. They have come up with the Pentax K10D, a compact ten Megapixel DSLR camera with inbuilt image stabilisation and several interesting features. The information is processed by the new PRIME processor. The digital signal is converted with a 22 bit A/D converter. And thanks to the SAVOX VIII, the Pentax K10D is suitable for use with lenses with inbuilt ultrasonic motors.

Nikon D40x Preview

Dennis Hissink : 2007-03-12 13:00:00
Nikon D40x Preview : Last year, Nikon surprised the digital SLR market with the introduction of a six Megapixel camera. As was to be expected, the first reactions were mainly ones of disappointment, because wasn't every self-respecting camera manufacturer competing in the Megapixel race? Nikon stubbornly dug in their heels and introduced the Nikon D40, successfully examining the importance of pixel quality. Today Nikon has introduced the D40x : a sister model to the D40 for anyone who needs more pixels, to for example, make enlargements of a crop of their files or to practise digital photography as a serious hobby. Nikon D40x has the same functionality and user friendliness as the D40, but now has a 10.2 Megapixel CDD image sensor.

Olympus SP-550 UZ image test samples

Dennis Hissink : 2007-03-10 19:44:01
Olympus SP-550 UZ image test samples : After a 3 hours sleep I was picked up by Olympus Europe to join a trip to Spring Mountain Ranch, about 30 miles from Las Vegas where the PMA 2007 show is held. Arriving before sunrise I was able to use the new Olympus SP550 UZ Megazoom digital camera in the field. This beast of a compact camera offers an amazing 18x optical zoom (28-504mm - 35mm equivalent) and a blazing speed of 15 fps. These features are just a small part of the total package this camera offers. How about P/S/A/M settings, optical image stabilizer, ISO up to 5000, 2.5-inch LCD, Super Macro mode which lets you shoot from as close as 1cm, and much more. I have to say; I am impressed with the versatility of the Olympus SP-550 UZ!

The new Canon A570 IS camera has been officially introduced some weeks ago during a worldwide introduction day, together with various other PowerShot and Digital IXUS compact cameras and the impressively fast professional Canon EOS 1D Mark III digital SLR camera. The new Canon PowerShot A570 IS digital camera is a 7 Megapixel model, equipped with a 4x optical zoom featuring optical Image Stabilizer, DIGIC III processor and for the first time the incredibly useful Face Detection Technology.

Canon PowerShot A640 review

Nic Rossmüller : 2007-02-17 03:50:00
Canon PowerShot A640 review : Canon decided to introduce their new range a month before the start of Photokina 2006. As well as several printers and other equipment, a new series of digital cameras was introduced, including the Canon PowerShot A640. The Canon PowerShot A-series has been around for several years. The A-series has a reputation for being accessible, reasonably priced and fully equipped to appeal to a broad public. The Canon PowerShot A640 also has a ten Megapixels CCD image sensor and 4x optical zoom. The previous model, the Canon PowerShot A620, had 7 Megapixels and anticipated good sales figures. Whoever thought that the increase in resolution would not prove popular was soon taught better by the Canon A640 camera.

Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro Exclusive Preview

Mark Peters : 2007-02-14 02:30:00
Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro camera preview : Just before the beginning of Photokina in Germany last year, Fujifilm announced the arrival of a digital SLR camera from the S-series for spring 2007 - the Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro. This announcement came at the right moment, especially for the faithful group of Fujifilm DSLR photographers who were willing to invest again in a digital SLR camera to bring them back up to date technologically. Many other manufacturers were busy expanding their DSLR range at a rapid pace, and everyone expected Fujifilm to also come up with something of the sort. We had the opportunity to take a closer look at one of the first pre-production samples of the S5 Pro to give you an exclusive comprehensive first impression.
