Fraunhofer Institute develops facial analysis system

Mark Peters : 2007-08-02 13:33:00
Fraunhofer Institute develops facial analysis system : How do regular people respond when they walk past an advertising poster? Do they stop and turn around to look at it with interest or march angrily past? A new system of detailed facial analysis can recognize a person’s mood in an instant. An advertisement for a new perfume is hanging in the departure lounge of an airport. Thousands of people walk past it every day. Some stop and stare in astonishment, others walk by, clearly amused. And then there are those who seem puzzled when they look at the poster advertisement. With the help of a small digital video camera, the facial analysis system automatically localizes the faces of everyone who walks past the advertisement.

Zero Ink printing

Mark Peters : 2007-02-09 01:28:50
Zero Ink printing : Zink Imaging has unveiled a new way for consumers to print and experience full color digital images without the need for ink cartridges or ribbons. Zink Imaging's patented technology, being shown for the first time at the DEMO 07 conference, shifts the printing paradigm from an ink cartridge or ink ribbon, to a totally inkless system. Images magically appear on the Zink paper without a drop of ink. The key to the Zink process is the Zink paper, which is protected by more than 100 patents and patents pending. Dye crystals are embedded in the Zink paper and are activated by heat from a Zink printer. The crystals then colorize, producing high quality, long-lasting, durable, and affordable images.

HP Hybrid nano CMOS chips

Mark Peters : 2007-01-16 13:33:00
HP Hybrid nano-CMOS chips : HP announced research that could lead to the creation of field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) up to eight times denser - while using less energy for a given computation - than those currently being produced. Moreover, such Hybrid nano-CMOS chips could be built using the same sized transistors as those used in today’s FPGA design, meaning they could be built in current fabrication facilities with only minor modifications. FPGAs are integrated circuits with programmable logic components and interconnects that can be adapted by end-users for specific applications. They are used in a wide range of industries, including communications, automotive and consumer electronics.

SanDisk USBTV

Dennis Hissink : 2007-01-08 21:00:05
SanDisk USBTV : SanDisk introduced USBTV, a new, industry-wide initiative that is expected to enable consumers to easily move digital content from their PCs to their televisions for viewing in full, big-screen comfort. The announcement was made during a press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), where the platform technology was demonstrated and several industry leaders announced their support for USBTV. USBTV is a powerful and innovative new platform that will enable consumers to transport downloaded digital content from a personal computer, by using a small flash memory-enabled media player, and plug-and-play it directly on virtually any TV. More information about the USBTV Forum and USBTV is available USBTV.org.
