SanDisk 4GB M2 Memory Stick Micro : SanDisk announced the availability of the 4GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) card. With the capacity to hold up to 1,000 MP3 songs, 9,600 high-resolution photos or up to 20 hours of MPEG4 video2, the 4GB M2 is compatible with Sony Ericsson’s latest generation of slim line, multimedia mobile handsets such as the Cybershot and Walkman series. “Music, video, photos, games - these are the types of content driving the need for higher capacity cards such as the 4GB M2,” said Jeff Kost, vice president and general manager of the Mobile Consumer Solutions division at SanDisk. “This trend is expected to grow as consumers embrace the mobile lifestyle and demand more storage-intensive features from a mobile device.”

SanDisk 8GB microSDHC : SanDisk Corporation announced that it is has begun sampling 6GB and 8GB microSD High Capacity (microSDHC) flash memory cards to major phone manufacturers and mobile network operators (MNOs) for testing and evaluation. The new flash memory cards are ideal for the growing number of feature rich multimedia handsets that bring together phones, music players, hand held computers, digital cameras and more. An 8GB microSDHC card can store more than 2,000 digital songs, or more than 5,000 high-resolution pictures, or up to 5 hours of high quality MPEG 4 video2. Retail release of the cards and availability to phone manufacturers and network operators are planned for later in 2007. Pricing has not yet been determined.

NAND flash with three dimensional cell array : Toshiba Corporation announced a new three dimensional memory cell array structure that enhances cell density and data capacity without relying on advances in process technology, and with minimal increase in the chip die size. In the new structure, pillars of stacked memory elements pass vertically through multi-stacked layers of electrode material and utilize shared peripheral circuits. The innovative design is a potential candidate technology for meeting future demand for higher density NAND flash memory. Typically, advances in memory density reflect advances in process technology. Toshiba's new approach is based on innovations in the stacking process.

The capacity enabled by Staktek’s SDHC memory card technology will reach 32GB per card with the fall delivery of next-generation, multi-level cell (MLC) Flash memory devices. SDHC memory cards are removable Flash storage cards used in a large variety of consumer electronics devices, such as digital still cameras, digital video cameras and personal media players.

Once the CA software is installed, the unique, ultra slim, wallet-size flash cards can be used to comfortably transport 2 GB worth of personal items such as digital music, photos and documents. The 2 GB flash drive is included with the purchase of the CA software. Customers will have the option to buy a drive pre-loaded with CA Internet Security Suite 2007; or a combination of both CA Internet Security Suite 2007 and the award-winning CA Desktop DNA Migrator 2007, called CA Secure & Store Flash Drive.

miCard S-Diamond from Pretec : Pretec, the pioneer of the world’s smallest USB Flash Drive, has now released their new product “S-Diamond,” which is the 1st in the world to implement miCard, a new flash memory card standard from MMC Association capable of supporting both USB and SD/MMC specifications. S-Diamond will debut at Computex 2007 in Taipei at Pretec booth and MMCA/OMIA booth. Measuring only 21mmX12mmX1.95mm, miCard is the smallest USB flash drive in the world, with an area 40% smaller than miniSD (volume is about 18% smaller than miniSD). miCard can also be an SD/MMC card with an inexpensive adapter. The specification of miCard should be able to be released to MMCA members later this year.

Samsung mobile phone memory card : Samsung Electronics announced that it has developed an 8Gigabyte (GB) microSD (Secure Digital) memory card, a size optimal for today’s multimedia mobile phones. Featuring the highest capacity today for a microSD card, the new fingernail-sized card is capable of storing 2,000 MP3 music files, 4,000 digital photos, or approximately five DVD-quality movies. SD cards, to date, have been largely used for data storage in digital still cameras and increasingly in televisions. MicroSD cards, which are a quarter the size of an SD card, are backward compatible with SD cards using an extender, to allow multimedia files downloaded by mobile phones to be easily displayed on other media.
