Underwater Photo and Video competition : Two international competitions associated with dive expos on opposite sides of the world are collaborating to produce a complementary series of categories and prizing opportunities. The competitions at Our World Underwater and Deep Indonesia have become “the Super Bowl” of underwater imagery events. With a combined prize pool of over $80,000, there are plenty of opportunities for photographers and videographers, both amateur and professional, to walk away with fantastic prizes and the glory of placing in a prestigious international competition. All compact camera category entrants will receive one free underwater photography lesson courtesy of Marty Snyderman and TheUnderwaterPhotographer.

New York underwater photography : The New York Underwater Photographic Society, is the youngest and fastest growing in the world. Based in the heart of New York City, the Society launched in April of this year, and already has over 120 members. The NYUPS will host a special event on Thursday July 12, 2007 at 6:30PM, at The Rock Theatre in the Times Square Arts Center, 300 West 43rd St at 8th Avenue, in Manhattan, for members and anyone wishing to learn more about underwater photography. Michael McNamara, Technical Editor of Popular Photography and Imaging Magazines will be presenting New Gear Preview & How to Produce Amazing Underwater Prints, and underwater photographer Mark Snyder, will present Improving Your Underwater Lighting.

Underwater photography at Scuba show 2007 : Popular underwater imagery websites DivePhotoGuide & Wetpixel teamed up with SCUBA Show to develop an annual international competition. The 1st annual Under The Blue competition was a tremendous success. Entries flooded in from around the globe, and were on display during SCUBA Show in Long Beach, California, June 2nd and 3rd, and are now posted online at the official competition website. Photographers competed in four still image categories, including a category for images that focus on California’s unique and beautiful underwater environment, and one video category. Winners shared more than $20,000 in prizes, including premium dive travel, and underwater photo & video equipment!

Underwater photography contest winners : Popular underwater photography websites Wetpixel and DivePhotoGuide have made underwater photo history by running 2 major international competitions simultaneously on opposite sides of the globe. The 2nd annual Wetpixel & DivePhotoGuide International Underwater Photo & Video Competition is held in association with the 37 annual Our World Underwater dive show in Chicago. The first Annual DEEP Indonesia Competition is held in association with Indonesia’s first diving and water sports show in Jakarta. Photographers from around the world competed in still and video categories. In the true spirit of an international competition, winners across both competitions hailed from 18 different countries.

Official launch of the New York Underwater Photo Society : New organization will bring together underwater photographers and videographers from the tri-state area NY to share and learn about the world of underwater imagery and marine conservation. New York, a mecca of art and culture, now has an outlet for underwater photographers and videographers of all levels to share and learn about the world of underwater imagery, scuba diving, and marine conservation. During an age of increased awareness of the perilous state of our world’s oceans, NYUPS will provide a forum for divers and photographers to share the beauty of the marine environment as well as the atrocities that occur in the ocean’s every day.
