Canon USA names president of financial services : Canon USA, Inc., a leader in digital imaging technology, announced the appointment of Richard P. Palmieri as President of Canon Financial Services. Canon Financial Services, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon USA, and is concentrated on the financing and leasing of Canon commercial equipment, such as copiers, fax machines and printers, as well as medical equipment and broadcast television equipment, through authorized dealers. Palmieri has an impressive 25-year background in diversified financial services. Most recently, he has served as president of Schneider Financial Services, a subsidiary of transportation industry leader, Schneider National.

HP appoints Ron Coughlin as senior vice president : HP announced the appointment of Ron Coughlin as senior vice president of worldwide marketing for the company’s Imaging and Printing Group, by July. Coughlin, 41, will be based in San Diego and have responsibility for driving the group’s marketing strategy, planning and execution on a global basis across all customer segments and the group’s five business units. This includes responsibility for customer, market and strategic planning, marketing operations, worldwide sales, communications and development of go-to-market assets. Coughlin comes to HP from PepsiCo, where he was recently senior vice president and chief marketing officer of the company’s international beverage business.

Hoya buys Pentax : Hoya Corporation and Pentax Corporation have entered into an agreement to effect their management integration (the “Management Integration”) by making Pentax into a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hoya through a tender offer by Hoya to purchase all shares of Pentax (the “Tender Offer”) to be followed by a share exchange or other appropriate business reorganization transaction. As announced in the press release titled “Hoya and Pentax Reach Basic Understanding for Management Integration” dated December 21, 2006, of Hoya and Pentax, based on the recognition that they are “the best possible business partners”, Hoya and Pentax entered into a Basic Agreement for Merger (the “Basic Agreement”) on that date.

Canon USA to build new headquarter in Melville : Canon USA announced that the Company has finalized an agreement to purchase 52 acres of land in Melville, New York, to build a new, state-of-the-art corporate headquarters and remain on Long Island. The purchase of the land to build the corporate headquarter was made from The Holiday Organization, a Long Island-based commercial and residential real estate developer, and the Tilles Companies. “Canon USA has been a proud member of the New York State Long Island community for more than 35 years, and we look forward to remaining an active and growing part of the community for years to come,” said Joe Adachi, president and chief executive officer for Canon USA.


Suit settled over Lithium Ion Battery

Suit settled over Lithium Ion Battery : Matsushita (Panasonic Corporation of North America) and 3M have reached a settlement regarding a patent dispute involving lithium ion battery cathode materials which was the subject of a patent infringement suit filed in March 2007 against Matsushita, Panasonic Corporation of North America and other companies. Matsushita and 3M have executed a Settlement and License Agreement. Under this Agreement, Matsushita and Panasonic Corporation are now licensed sources of batteries. The specific terms of the settlement are confidential. 3M believes its cathode materials containing nickel, manganese and cobalt are an important technology for current and next generation lithium ion batteries.
