Casio changes name into Casio America : Casio, Inc, the US subsidiary of Casio Computer Co. Ltd., a global leader in the consumer electronics industry, officially changed its name to Casio America, Inc., effective today. The new name change follows the company’s major milestone, which was welcomed in June of 2007 – the 50th Anniversary of Casio Computer Co., Ltd. It was 50 years ago that the four Kashio brothers invented the electric calculator and decided to go into business, leading to the establishment of Casio Computer Co., Ltd. With the passing of time, Casio has evolved from manufacturing some of the world’s first calculators to developing digital watches, electronic musical instruments and digital cameras.

Sony and 3M settle suit over Lithium Ion Battery : Sony Corporation and 3M have reached a global settlement regarding a lithium ion battery cathode patent dispute filed in March 2007 against Sony and other companies in the Minnesota District Court and United States International Trade Commission. Under the settlement, Sony Corporation and Sony Electronics Inc. are now licensed sources of batteries containing 3M’s cathode technology. The specific terms of the settlement are confidential. 3M believes its cathode materials containing nickel, manganese and cobalt are an important technology for current and next generation lithium ion batteries. 3M stands ready to supply cathode materials to the industry.

Nikon appoints SKIN as first Romanian distributor : Nikon is proud to announce SKIN as its first official distributor in Romania. Full official Nikon service facilities will operate per 1 September 2007 from the SKIN office. Next to the Nikon imaging products, SKIN will be responsible for Nikon’s sports and recreational optics as well. Hayato Kamijo, President of Nikon Europe BV, states: “Romania is one of the fastest growing markets in Europe and Nikon recognizes that there is need of good product distribution executed by a well organized office like SKIN. Fotolog and Google agreement : Fotolog and Google announced a multi-year search technology and services agreement whereby Google will be the exclusive search and keyword-targeted advertising provider for Fotolog's growing international network. Founded in 2002, Fotolog is a photo-blogging site with a large audience in Europe and Latin America. With more than 15M unique users and 3.5 billion page views a month, Fotolog ranks 20th on Alexa's list of the world's most-trafficked websites, 20th in page views in Comscore's May 2007 report, and thereby weighs in as the Web's third-largest social network as measured by traffic. Google will provide search functionality and advertising across Fotolog's network under a three-year agreement.

HP resolves ink cartridge patent dispute : HP announced that it has resolved a patent infringement lawsuit against German-based InkTec GmbH Zentrale and PCE Group regarding inks used in the refilling of certain HP inkjet cartridges. The settlement also included resolution with Korea-based InkTec Ltd., the manufacturer and distributor of the infringing products. As part of the settlement, both InkTec entities and the PCE Group acknowledged the validity of the HP patents in suit and admitted to infringement. In addition, they agreed to pay HP an undisclosed sum, to stop selling infringing inks in Germany and other countries where such patents are held, and to withdraw infringing products from the market in those countries.

Fujifilm USA management change : Fujifilm announced that Taizo Mori has stepped down as President and CEO of Fujifilm USA Inc. He will continue in his position as President of Fujifilm Holdings America Corporation in order to focus full time on the overall management of Fujifilm group companies in America. Mr. Mori retains his role as a Corporate Vice President of Fujifilm Corporation based in Tokyo, Japan. Hiro Sakai, who will continue to report to Mr. Mori, has been named President and CEO of Fujifilm U.S.A., Inc. Mr. Sakai will remain General Manager of the Imaging Division, which includes overseeing the operations of the Fujicolor Processing Division, and will also head up the operations of the Fujifilm Electronic Imaging.
