Canon EOS camera manufacturing milestone : Canon announced the achievement of a new camera manufacturing milestone as combined production of the company's EOS series film and digital single lens reflex (SLR) cameras passed the 30-million mark. Additionally, production of EOS Digital-series SLR cameras has passed the 10-million unit threshold. The achievement coincides with Canon's 70th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of the launch of its EOS line of SLR cameras. Shipment of EOS cameras began in 1987 from Canon Inc.'s Fukushima Plant (now Fukushima Canon Inc.), with production later moving to Canon Inc., Taiwan and the company's current main production base at Oita Canon Inc.

Now celebrating the first anniversary of its formation, the photography-based community interest company Majority World has seen its photo library pass the 10,000 images mark. Majority World was formed to promote professional photographers in Asia, Africa and Latin America - which areas together represent the highest concentration of population in the world (hence its title Majority World) - to the rest of the photographic community, and in particular to Europe, the UK, and USA.

SanDisk sues companies for Patent infringement : SanDisk announced the filing of three patent infringement actions against 25 companies that manufacture, sell and import USB flash drives, CompactFlash memory cards, multimedia cards, MP3 media players and other removable flash storage products. The actions, filed in the United States District Court in the Western District of Wisconsin and in the United States International Trade Commission (“ITC”), allege that the defendants have infringed various SanDisk system-level patents, and seek damages and a permanent injunction in the federal court actions, as well as a permanent exclusion order from the ITC banning importation of the products into the United States.

Brelsford brings many years of technology industry experience that includes a diverse spectrum of roles in legal affairs and business development. In addition, he has worked closely with businesses and boards of directors on strategic, operational and compliance matters. “SanDisk has a growing portfolio of products, businesses and intellectual properties that require strong legal leadership,” said Bruner. “Jim will use his extensive experience to provide that direction and leverage our opportunities to maximize growth.”


SanDisk opens flash memory plant in China

SanDisk opens flash memory plant in China : SanDisk Corporation, the world’s largest supplier of flash storage card products, announced the opening of its production facility in Shanghai, the company’s first in the People’s Republic of China. Based in Zizhu Industrial-based Science Park, SanDisk Semiconductor (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. (SDSS) is expected to play a critical role in SanDisk’s worldwide operations as the plant will focus on the assembly and test of its advanced flash memory products for mobile and other consumers in markets worldwide. SanDisk’s worldwide operations function will also reside at the Shanghai facility. The announcement was made at a press conference held at the flash memory facility.

Nikon and T-Mobile partnership : Nikon’s newly announced CoolPix S51c and my Picturetown are set to revolutionize the way in which consumers share and store images. my Picturetown, Nikon’s new photo sharing and storage service, allows the consumer to email pictures to friends and family, send their pictures to a Blackberry device for viewing, or post them to a blog or social networking site. Adding to the convenience of this camera, Nikon has partnered with T-Mobile USA to provide CoolPix S51c customers with a complimentary six month subscription to T-Mobile’s HotSpot Wi-Fi service for digital cameras, allowing the user to send images and videos to friends and family from the nearly 8,500 T-Mobile HotSpot locations nationwide.

Panasonic signs Olympic partnership agreement : Panasonic announced it has signed an agreement with the International Olympic Committee to renew its Official Worldwide Olympic Partnership for a further eight years through to the 2016 Olympic Games. The signing ceremony, held at The Banqueting House in London, was hosted by IOC President Jacques Rogge, and Fumio Ohtsubo, President of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. Panasonic has been an Official Worldwide Olympic Partner since The Olympic Partner (TOP) Programme started in 1988, for the Calgary Olympic Winter Games and Seoul Olympic Games, in the Audio and Video Equipment category with the aim of providing financial and technical support to the staging of the Olympic Games.
