DVD writer from Pioneer : Pioneer Electronics Inc. announces two new high performance, multi-format DVD/CD writers for rapid and reliable preservation of digital movies, music, photos and data files. The Pioneer DVR-X122 external DVD/CD writer uses a high speed USB 2.0 port for quick connectivity to a PC lacking a built-in high-capacity writer, and also offers the portability needed to back up user files on multiple computers. For those who prefer a permanently installed drive, Pioneer offers the DVR-R200 internal DVD/CD writer. Both models are bundled with sophisticated software to create personalized videos, and the DVR-R200 features the LightScribe direct-to-disc labeling technology.

SanDisk 64 Gigabyte Solid State Drives : Reaching for the “sweet spot” of memory storage for laptop computers, SanDisk Corporation expanded its line of solid state drive (SSD) products with the introduction of a 64-gigabyte (GB) SSD aimed at both enterprise users and early adopter consumers such as gamers. SanDisk 1.8-inch UATA 5000 and 2.5-inch SATA 5000 SSD products, which already are available in a 32GB capacity, are compatible as drop-in replacements for hard disk drives in most mainstream notebook computers. The announcement was made at Computex Taipei 2007, where SanDisk is showcasing its comprehensive line of flash memory storage products for use in industrial and system-level embedded applications.

Toshiba HD DVD Rewritable Drive for Mobile PCs : Toshiba Storage Device Division (SDD) announced the world’s first slim HD DVD-RW drive for mobile PCs, further extending HD recording capabilities to the IT arena. The drive can read, write and rewrite to HD DVD-RW discs and write to HD DVD-R discs and DVD & CD discs. Toshiba’s SD-L912A enables mobile PCs to replace desktop systems in the home with this additional HD functionality. The drive allows backup of large-capacity PC hard disk drives to the reusable format of HD DVD-RW discs and provides capabilities to store data-rich, HD digital content. HD DVD-RW functionality also opens the door to a wide range of applications involving storage and rewriting of large volumes of data.

Solid state drive gets Windows Vista certification : SanDisk Corporation announced that the Microsoft Windows Hardware Qualification Lab (WHQL) has certified the new SanDisk 1.8-inch UATA solid state drive (SSD), which is being used as a substitute for hard drives in selected laptop computers. The product also earned a high score on the Windows Experience Index, indicating that it is suited to a variety of Microsoft Windows Vista applications. The announcement was made at the 2007 Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC 2007) at the Los Angeles Convention Center, where SanDisk is showcasing its comprehensive line of storage products for use in computing systems. On display at the exhibition are the SanDisk SSD products.
