CES 2008 innovation awards : MOD Systems announced the MOD Systems Consumer Kiosk, or MOD POD, has been selected as an honoree in the CES Innovations 2008 Design and Engineering Awards in the Computer Hardware category. Announced yesterday at the annual CES Unveiled Event in New York, the Innovations Design and Engineering Awards recognizes the most innovative consumer electronics products in the industry’s top categories. The MOD POD is the first honoree product to be used in retail by consumers who want to search, sample and download digital media content. “MOD Systems is incredibly proud to be a recipient of the CES Innovations 2008 Design and Engineering Awards,” said Mark Phillips, CEO and CTO of MOD Systems.

CES 2008 goes green : The CEA announced that CES 2008 is taking unprecedented steps to "go green" by reducing its carbon footprint and with the use of sustainable and energy efficient practices. Produced by CEA, the CES 2008, the world’s largest tradeshow for consumer technology, will run January 7-10, 2008, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The CES 2008 will feature the hottest product debuts from 2,700 exhibitors, covering more than 30 product areas, including the latest in content, wireless, digital imaging, mobile electronics, home theater and audio. “As the world’s largest tradeshow for consumer technology, we are also the first tradeshow of our size to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Gary Shapiro, CEA’s president and CEO.

Steven Sasson named to CE Hall of Fame : Steven Sasson, an electrical engineer at Eastman Kodak Company who invented the digital camera, has been named to the Consumer Electronics Hall of Fame. The Consumer Electronics Association created the CE Hall of Fame in 2000 to recognize the pioneers of the CE industry and has honored more then 110 industry leaders including inventors, engineers, business executives and journalists. "We are pleased to honor such distinguished individuals through election to our industry's Hall of Fame," said CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro. "Their contributions played a key role in the products and technologies that provide enjoyment and a better and more productive life for consumers all over the world."

CEA marketing tools : CEA launched a full suite of marketing tools to help TechHome and PARA members grow their businesses. CEA is working with Eclipse Marketing, a full-service marketing and public relations firm, to provide electronic integrators with the most commonly used marketing tools that promote the digital lifestyle. Some of these tools include literature, websites, vehicle wraps and e-newsletters. The added benefit is that each tool is personalized for every member. CES 2008 keynote : The CEA announced that top executives from Microsoft, Panasonic and Intel will deliver keynote addresses at the 2008 International CES. The 2008 International CES is the world’s largest tradeshow for consumer. Bill Gates, Chairman, Microsoft Corp., will deliver a pre-show keynote address on Sunday, January 6, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. Toshihiro Sakamoto, president, Panasonic AVC Networks Company, will kick off the 2008 International CES at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, January 7 with an opening keynote, immediately following a State of the Industry Address by Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA. Paul Otellini, CEO, Intel Corp. will round out day one with a keynote address at 4:30 p.m., Monday afternoon.

HDTV research report : The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) predicts 16 million high-definition televisions (HDTV) will sell in 2007 bringing the total number of HDTVs sold in the US to 52.5 million. Thirty percent of US households now have an HDTV, likely rising to 36 percent by the end of this year. Among these HDTV households, almost a third own more than one high-definition set, proving the booming nature of this market. A new CEA study, HDTV: You Have the Set, But Do You Have the Content?, found that 44 percent of HDTV owners receive HD programming. The main reasons consumers stated for not receiving the programming was that it was too expensive or they were not interested.

DTV interface standard : The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)’s Digital Television (DTV) Interface Subcommittee published CEA-761-B, DTV Remodulator Specification with Enhanced OSD Capability, and CEA-CEB5-B, Recommended Practice for DTV Receiver “Monitor” Mode Capability. Together these standards will enable consumers to easily set-up and control a digital television accessory, like a set-top box or digital video recorder (DVR), using their TV screen.

CES 2008 : The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) announced the launch of an advertising campaign designed to position the 2008 International CES as the largest consumer technology event in the world. Produced by CEA. Dubbed “The Art of Technology,” the new campaign initially launched June 6 on the Web and will be followed by ads in trade publications in July. A fully integrated campaign will follow in the fall and will include print, online and outdoor advertising, collateral materials and direct mail. TBC Advertising and Public Relations is the agency of record for this advertising campaign for the 2008 International CES after winning the account in late 2006.

2007 International CES : The International CES announced the results of an audit that confirms CES’ stature as the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow and North America’s largest annual tradeshow of any kind. The 2007 International CES audit, conducted by Veris Consulting LLC, revealed that the industry tradeshow drew a record 27,020 international attendees, with overall attendance totaling 143,695 industry professionals during CES’ four-day run in Las Vegas. With the addition of CES’ newest venue, the Sands Expo and Convention Center/The Venetian, total exhibit space also reached an all-time high. More than 2,700 exhibitors showcased their newest products in a record breaking 1.8 million net square feet of space.

Consumer Electronics Association moves to Arlington : The Consumer Electronics Association will move its headquarters to a new location in Arlington. Inspired by the need for more space to provide for growth of the association, and to better reflect its culture and work style, Consumer Electronics Association purchased and refurbished the building at 1919 S. Eads Street in the Crystal City section of Arlington, VA. The new CEA building is located in the heart of Crystal City business corridor and is close to Washington, DC and Washington Reagan National Airport. “This is more than a new home for CEA. The building reflects CEA’s growth, the industry’s excitement and our optimism about the future,” said Gary Shapiro, president & CEO.

GPS global positioning system research : Overall satisfaction among owners of Global Positioning System (GPS) devices is high, and consumer interest for the technology is exploding, according to a research report released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). GPS - Exploring Ownership and Interest revealed an 80 percent owner satisfaction rate, which was strongly influenced by the ease of use and display quality of the devices, which are used primarily for navigation assistance in a vehicle. “Convergence has spread GPS across multiple product segments resulting in greater consumer awareness and budding adoption of the technology,” said Steve Koenig, CEA’s senior manager of industry analysis.

Consumer electronics revenue increases : Factory-to-dealer sales of consumer electronics are projected to exceed $155 billion in 2007, according to the semi-annual industry forecast released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). The forecast comes on the eve of the 2007 International CES, the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow. "The consumer electronics (CE) industry has outdone itself once again, with revenues totaling $145 billion in 2006, and we're on track for another year of healthy growth," said CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro. "We surpassed original projections for the second year in a row, and the industry outlook is proof positive that Americans can't do without their beloved consumer electronics.
