Rugged mobile computer

Ralf Jurrien : 2007-07-02 11:45:00
Rugged mobile computer : In 2005 Justin Dyster and Shane Lewis saw a need for a rugged handheld computer that was a little more advanced than anything else currently available on the market. The two engineers left the major defense and aerospace systems contractor they worked for, moved from Tucson to Chandler, Arizona, and began their quest to design and build the world’s first rugged ultra mobile computer. They turned to Avnet Electronics Marketing for help getting off the ground. Now their company, Black Diamond Advanced Technology, is set to bring the SwitchBack Ultra Mobile PC to market. The first SwitchBack is expected to roll off the assembly line between late August and early September.

Remote online storage

Ilse Jurriën : 2007-07-02 00:00:00
Ewedrive remote backup service : Data storage specialist, Defuturo is launching a remote backup service called ‘Ewedrive’ for home/personal PC users who don’t have wool over their eyes about increasing the resilience of their data and want to gain access to it from anywhere, hassle-free, without any security concerns. Ewedrive has a highly competitive pricing scheme with fees based on a ‘pay-as-you-go’ model, rather than a monthly subscription. Users can buy disk space for as little as five pence per gigabyte for one week, or obtain unlimited storage space from £1.90 a week (less than a lamb kebab). There are no file size limits or extra charges for data transfer or bandwidth usage. Additionally, all new Ewedrive users will be given 1GB of disk space free of charge.

Optical disc technology on track

Ralf Jurrien : 2007-04-25 13:07:00
Optical disc technology on track : In consumer and professional fields the demand for storage continues to skyrocket, and research carried out by Understanding & Solutions looks at the removable storage market, the future opportunities and the challenges ahead for the competing formats. Optical media solutions such as traditional CD and DVD are becoming unsuitable for high volume storage requirements, as capacities fall short of many users’ requirements. “We’re already seeing a migration from optical disc to hard disk devices such as PVRs and Media Centre PCs, with DVD recording becoming a more occasional function.” says David Millar, Business Director of Disc Pressing and Storage Media at Understanding & Solutions.
