Popular Science Award for Fujifilm FinePix camera : Fujifilm USA, Inc. is pleased to announce that Popular Science has selected the Fujifilm FinePix F50fd digital camera as the recipient of a 2007 Best of What’s New award in the Gadget category. The editors of Popular Science singled out the FinePix F50fd as “the first camera that can detect faces -to optimize focus, exposure and color-even if people are turned to the side or looking up or down.” Fujifilm’s proprietary Face Detection 2.0 debuted on the F50fd and includes a new Automatic Red-Eye Removal feature that automatically corrects red-eye directly after the shot is taken and then saves both the original and the corrected image file.

CES 2008 innovation awards : MOD Systems announced the MOD Systems Consumer Kiosk, or MOD POD, has been selected as an honoree in the CES Innovations 2008 Design and Engineering Awards in the Computer Hardware category. Announced yesterday at the annual CES Unveiled Event in New York, the Innovations Design and Engineering Awards recognizes the most innovative consumer electronics products in the industry’s top categories. The MOD POD is the first honoree product to be used in retail by consumers who want to search, sample and download digital media content. “MOD Systems is incredibly proud to be a recipient of the CES Innovations 2008 Design and Engineering Awards,” said Mark Phillips, CEO and CTO of MOD Systems.

SanDisk Flash Cards receives 2007 Readers Choice Awards : Earning high grades in the imaging school of hard knocks, the SanDisk Extreme 3 line of flash memory cards has been named “favorite flash memory card” by professionals in Studio Photography magazine’s 2007 Readers’ Choice Awards. The announcement was made during PhotoPlus 2007 International Conference & Expo in New York City, where SanDisk Corporation is exhibiting through Saturday at Booth 1808 in the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Readers expressed high regard for the SanDisk Extreme 3 line, according to Alice B. Miller, editor of the magazine. Steven Sasson named to CE Hall of Fame

Steven Sasson named to CE Hall of Fame : Steven Sasson, an electrical engineer at Eastman Kodak Company who invented the digital camera, has been named to the Consumer Electronics Hall of Fame. The Consumer Electronics Association created the CE Hall of Fame in 2000 to recognize the pioneers of the CE industry and has honored more then 110 industry leaders including inventors, engineers, business executives and journalists. "We are pleased to honor such distinguished individuals through election to our industry's Hall of Fame," said CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro. "Their contributions played a key role in the products and technologies that provide enjoyment and a better and more productive life for consumers all over the world."


Library of Congress awarded Stock Artists Alliance

Library of Congress awarded Stock Artists Alliance : The US Library of Congress has awarded the Stock Artists Alliance one of eight partnerships for preserving digital media. The partnerships are part of the $2.15 million Preserving Creative America initiative of the Library’s National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program. These partnerships each address different aspects of preservation, to help insure the survival of digital media, whether images, movies or even video games. Being recognized along with the likes of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Sony, and BMI, SAA’s award comes as acknowledgment of SAA’s ongoing work to promote the importance of using and preserving photo metadata.

Samsung wins Company of the Year award : Samsung Electronics America, Inc., has been named “Company of the Year” in the Display Technology category in VARBusiness' Annual Report Card (ARC) for an unprecedented fifth year in a row. Samsung's solution-provider partners and readers of CMP Technology’s VARBusiness recognized the company with the prestigious award. Research for the awards was conducted by Bernett Research Services, a Boston-based data collection company, and Answers Research, the Solana Beach, Calif.-based market research and consulting firm. The ARC awards were held at an awards ceremony held on August 21 at the CMP Channel's XChange ’07 Conference in Orlando, Florida.
