Sony spot for Handycam camcorders : Sony's newest spot from Bagby and Company made its network television debut last night, on ABC's "Desperate Housewives". The "Star" spot is one of the newest elements of an enduring multimedia campaign which began last year and has successfully stimulated consumer interest in Handycam camcorders by dramatizing the emotional benefits of advanced features on the Sony DVD-505. If you didn't catch it last night, be sure to look for it on CSI Miami tonight. Speaking to consumers aged 25 to 54 whose lives revolve around home and family, this latest work from Bagby and Company employs their signature storytelling technique to create a compelling Sony message.

Sony HVR-A1U HDV 1080i camcorder : A group of 12 mountain climbers recently set out on an ambitious project: reaching the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa at 19,340 feet and tallest freestanding mountain on earth. On one level, the challenge appealed to their adventurous spirits. But as cinematographers, the climb was an opportunity to make a documentary from a unique perspective, and the tool they chose was Sony's HVR-A1U HDV extremely compact and lightweight handy-type camcorder. "We were out hiking in Charlotte, it was a beautiful day and the topic of Kilimanjaro came up," said Heidi Dove, a creative producer and developmental director at Emulsion Arts, an independent production company in Charlotte, N.C.

Sony high speed CMOS sensor : Starting with their adoption in cellular phones in 2002, Sony’s CMOS sensors for Megapixel camera phones, digital high definition video cameras, and Digital SLRs have become widely used in commercial products. The greatest strength of CMOS sensors is that by including both digital and analog circuits on the same chip, their readout speed can be made dramatically faster than that of CCD. Sony is now pushing forward with the development of high-speed CMOS sensors for digital cameras that can provide continuous imaging from all pixels at the high frame rate of 60 frame/s. Sony is also developing in parallel a camera digital signal processor (DSP) that can take full advantage of this performance.

Sony Cybershot DSC-T30 : Sony is building up its arsenal of anti-blur, digital still cameras with the introduction of the new 7.2 Megapixel Sony Cybershot DSC T30 model. “When people are out having a good time, they don’t want to spend it learning how to avoid taking blurry pictures,” said James Neal, director of marketing for digital imaging products at Sony Electronics. “We’ve engineered our flagship T-series camera with intelligent, automatic features so people can spend more time having fun and less time understanding technology.” The Sony Cybershot DSC-T30 camera will be available next month for about $500 direct at SonyStyle.com, at Sony Style retail stores, and at authorized dealers nationwide.

Sony DSC-T7 receives iF Gold Award : At the awards ceremony for the iF product design award 2006, held at CeBIT 2006, Sony was a runaway winner scooping 14 iF product design awards, including the prestigious iF gold awards for its Sony DSC-T7. Selected from 1,952 products, entered from 37 countries worldwide, the International Forum Design awarded the coveted iF seal of design excellence to the following Sony products within the category Consumer Electronics/Telecommunications. The Sony T7 which won an iF gold award is measures only 9.8 mm deep at the thinnest point. The shooting-mode settings can easily be controlled using only the left hand, as the relevant buttons are all located on the left-hand side of the camera's rear face.

Sony DRU 820A DVD writer : Sony Europe’s IT Peripherals division announced the launch of its new, faster DVD-RAM compatible DVD writer. The drive will ship as part of a complete retail package which includes replaceable front bezels and the award-winning Nero Software Suite. The retail kit will also include bonus tools for DVD authoring, audio editing and DVD back-up. Sony added the first DVD-RAM compatible drives to its line-up last month following its initial first-to-market launch of Dual RW DVD drives. The new Sony DRU-820A will expand the existing product line-up, providing even faster read and write speeds which can also be used in conjunction with the array of accessories available in Sony’s various range of retail kits.

Sony Blu Ray disc media : Sony Europe’s Recording Media & Energy (RME) division today announced that its first Blu-ray Disc media will ship in Europe in March 2006. Sony Single-layer BD-RE (Blu-ray Disc Rewritable) media will be available in store from mid March and single-layer write-once BD-R (Blu-ray Disc Recordable) media will be available from April. Sony is also set to launch dual layer discs later this year. The Sony single-layer Blu-ray Disc Recordable (BNR25A) and Blu-ray Disc Rewritable (BNE25A) media offer a storage capacity of 25GB, more than five times that of a normal DVD and enough for approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes of video at a bit rate of 24Mbps, or 10 hours and 30 minutes at 5Mbps.

Sony Cybershot cameras at PMA 2006 : According to a publication on the Sony Centre website - www.sonycenter.lu - we may soon expect new Sony Cybershot digital cameras to be announced. PMA 2006 is getting closer so we would not be surprised if the introduction is made this week. The site mentions the Sony Cybershot DSC-H5 model. According to the (unofficial) information the Sont DSC-H5 features 7 Megapixels, Super Steady Shot, a large 3-inch LCD display and a 12x Carl Zeiss optical zoom lens. The Sony Cybershot H2 is another new model featuring 6 Megapixel, 2-inch LCD and 12x Carl Zeiss optical zoom. Other models that are mentioned are the Sony Cybershot DSC-W100, Sony Cybershot DSC-W70 and the Sony Cybershot DSC-W40 cameras.
