SanDisk launches major retail expansion in India : SanDisk announced distribution relationships with Ingram Micro, the world’s largest wholesaler of technology goods, and Rashi Peripherals, one of India’s largest IT distributors, to sell SanDisk products throughout the country. Plans are to start with 2,000 stores in the coming weeks and increase to 14,000-plus by the end of 2007, according to statements made during a press conference at the Taj Mansingh Hotel in Delhi. Although the mix will vary among retailers, SanDisk intends to launch a wide range of products - including MP3 players, mobile phone cards, USB flash drives and digital imaging flash cards - throughout the country, concentrating initially on India’s 12 largest cities.

Raisanen, who brings more than 20 years of industry experience in demand management and supply chain operations, will be responsible for the company’s worldwide operations and supply chain and will report to Dr. Randhir Thakur, executive vice president of technology and worldwide operations. To manage SanDisk’s global manufacturing that includes locations throughout Asia, Raisanen will be stationed in Shanghai, where he will be responsible for managing end-to-end supply chain and overseeing the worldwide manufacturing operations organization.

Toshiba & SanDisk Continue Technology and Market Leadership : Toshiba Corporation and SanDisk Corporation announced today that, further to definitive agreements that the companies entered into in July 2006, construction has started of Fab 4, a 300-millimeter (mm) wafer fab, in Yokkaichi, in Mie Prefecture, Japan. The NAND flash memory market is growing fast, on healthy growth in a wide range of digital electronic applications, including MP3 music players, mobile phones and several kinds of memory cards. Toshiba and SanDisk started operation of a state-of-the-art 300-millimeter wafer fab, Fab 3, in summer 2005, at Yokkaichi Operations, and have boosted the facility’s capacity to meet market demand.

SanDisk headquarters move to Dublin in Ireland : SanDisk Corporation announced the relocation of its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) headquarters from Haarlem in The Netherlands to Dublin, Ireland. The move, which was announced today at a SanDisk press conference in Dublin, is effective immediately. In conjunction with SanDisk's relocation to Dublin, Ed Moro, SanDisk's former managing director of EMEA, was promoted to vice president, managing director of EMEA. Moro, prior to his current role, previously headed SanDisk sales in North and South America. He has been with SanDisk for nine years. Moro will manage all day-to-day EMEA operations and will report to Greg Rhine, senior vice president, SanDisk worldwide sales.

NAND flash memory production at Yokkaichi : Toshiba Corporation and SanDisk today announced that they have agreed to build a new 300-millimeter (mm) wafer fabrication facility at Toshiba’s Yokkaichi Operations to meet fast growing demand for NAND flash memory. The announcement underlines NAND flash memory’s position as the storage technology of choice for mobile products and digital consumer devices, including MP3 music players and memory cards for mobile phones, and Toshiba and SanDisk’s determination to retain a leading position in this fast expanding market. The companies plan to start construction of the new facility in August 2006, with initial production operations scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of calendar year 2007.

ITC investigates SanDisk patent violation : SanDisk Corporation today announced that the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) has instituted an investigation in response to a complaint filed by SanDisk. The investigation, entitled In the Matter of Certain NOR and NAND Flash Memory Devices and Products Containing same, has been assigned Investigation No. 337-TA-560. The ITC will investigate whether NOR and NAND flash memory chips manufactured by STMicroelectronics and sold in the USA infringe SanDisk’s US Patent No. 5,172,338 and US Patent No. 5,991,517, and whether ST’s NOR and NAND flash memory chips should therefore be barred from importation into and sale in the United States.

SanDisk speeds up expansion of Flash Memory Facility : SanDisk intends to accelerate the expansion of the 300-millimeter (Fab 3) wafer fabrication facility in Yokkaichi, Japan. The move is expected to bring Fab 3 wafer capacity from the previously planned 48,750 wafers per month to 70,000 wafers p/m by March 2007. The incremental investment by SanDisk for 50% of this higher Fab 3 output is currently estimated at $500 million over the next 12 months. SanDisk’s total expected 2006 investment in Fab 3 is approximately $1 billion, of which a portion is anticipated to be financed through operating lease financing or other sources of capital. Fab 3 is operated by Flash Partners, Toshiba and SanDisk’s venture for NAND flash memories.

Ltd. in the country's technology hub of Bangalore, where engineers will work on the core elements of the company's flash memory products. On October 20, 2005, SanDisk signed a definitive agreement to acquire Matrix, a pioneer in the design and development of three-dimensional (3-D) integrated circuits. Matrix 3-D Memory is used for one-time programmable storage applications where low cost is the paramount consideration, such as video games, music, and archiving. The acquisition consideration included approx. 3.7 million newly issued SanDisk shares, the assumption of equity incentives which could result in the issuance of approximately 600,000 additional shares of SanDisk stock, and cash of approximately $14 million.
