PIEA 2006 student-teacher photo competition winners : The Photo Imaging Education Association (PIEA), a member association of PMA, Jackson, Mich, USA, announces the winners of the 2006 PIEA International Student-Teacher Photo Competition. The judges have chosen 112 images submitted by 93 entrants out of 5,915 images submitted by 1,330 entrants from 101 schools in seven countries. Winners come from middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities in Australia, Canada, Guatemala, India, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Each award winner and exhibitor will share in the more than US$110,000 in prizes sponsored by 94 generous companies and organizations from six countries.

PMA 2006 Distinguished Service Award recipients announced : Five industry veterans will receive the PMA Distinguished Service Award during the PMA 2006 International Convention and Trade Show, Feb. 26 - March 1, at the Orange County Convention Center, West Building, Orlando, Fla. The award, which will be presented during the PMA Big Night Awards Ceremony, Feb. 28, recognizes individuals who have built lifelong careers in photo imaging and have contributed to the advancement of the industry. The PMA 2006 Distinguished Service Award recipients are Mr. James Chung, Mr. Paul Harmel, Ms. Machiko Ouchi, Mr. Rainer Schmidt, and Mr. Herb Stein. Following is a brief professional biography of each recipient.

DIMA 2006 Shoot Outs feature big changes at PMA 2006 : In response to requests from participants and other Digital Imaging Marketing Association members, DIMA announces significant changes to the DIMA 2006 Digital Printer Shoot-Out, Digital Camera Shoot-Out, and Photo Kiosk Shoot-Out. This will be the 11th annual DIMA Printer Shoot-Out; and, for the first time in event history, judging of the prints took place on Jan. 18, prior to the DIMA Annual Conference, to be held at the PMA 2006. “We have completely overhauled the event,” says Chad Munce, group executive, Digital Imaging Markets. “One of the most significant changes is the target file being used was created by Graphic Intelligence Agency, using a GretagMacbeth Color Checker.
