Panasonic Lumix DMC L1 at PMA 2006 : At the PMA 2006 show where Panasonic held a press conference the new Panasonic DMC L1 was officially introduced. The new Panasonic L1 is the first Panasonic dSLR product that is the result of the cooperation between Olympus and Panasonic. The Pansonic L1 also reflects Panasonic in-house technologies where the Lumix series got famous for. The new Leica D lens system is also a system that has been introduced by Panasonic to be combined with the Panasonic dSLR system cameras. The new Leica lens is a high quality lens and is the only lens that meets the professional demand for high quality system lenses. The Lumix name will be a brand name that stands for high quality all round photo system.

PMA 2006 Hall of Fame Award for Shigetaka Komori : At its annual Convention and Trade Show, the Photo Marketing Association International (PMA) awarded its 2006 PMA Hall of Fame award to Mr. Shigetaka Komori, President, Representative Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fuji Photo Film, Tokyo, Japan. The award is the highest honor given by PMA, the international trade association for the photo imaging industry. The PMA Board of Trustees selects people who have achieved personal success and have played a major role in the advancement of the photo imaging industry," said Fred Lerner, PMA President. "This definitely describes Mr. Komori, sharing his knowledge and leadership skills with others in the industry is important to him."

Samsung GX-1L at PMA 2006 : At the Sneak Peak, a day before the PMA 2006 begins, we run into the Samsung GX-1L digital SLR. Samsung presented their line of digital cameras to the world press, who is attending the International Convention & Trace Show. The latest product announcement is the Samsung GX 1L which is almost identical to the GX-1S model. The new Samsung GX 1L is a light weight dSLR model featuring a 6 Megapixel CCD sensor and incorporates the KAF mount. The Samsung GX 1L is therefore able to user many Pentax DSLR lenses and the whole range of KAF and KAF2 mount lenses. The Samsung GX-1L and GFX-1S cameras are Samsung's first dSLR products, obvious rebadge Pentax models, but expect a real Samsung around Photokina 2006!

Fujifilm wins DIMA 2006 Innovative Product Awards : The Digital Imaging Marketing Association (DIMA), a section of Photo Marketing Association International, today presented Fujifilm with not one, but two DIMA Innovative Digital Product Awards at the PMA 2006. PIEA 2006 student-teacher photo competition winners : The Photo Imaging Education Association (PIEA), a member association of PMA, Jackson, Mich, USA, announces the winners of the 2006 PIEA International Student-Teacher Photo Competition. The judges have chosen 112 images submitted by 93 entrants out of 5,915 images submitted by 1,330 entrants from 101 schools in seven countries. Winners come from middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities in Australia, Canada, Guatemala, India, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Each award winner and exhibitor will share in the more than US$110,000 in prizes sponsored by 94 generous companies and organizations from six countries.

PMA 2006 Distinguished Service Award recipients announced : Five industry veterans will receive the PMA Distinguished Service Award during the PMA 2006 International Convention and Trade Show, Feb. 26 - March 1, at the Orange County Convention Center, West Building, Orlando, Fla. The award, which will be presented during the PMA Big Night Awards Ceremony, Feb. 28, recognizes individuals who have built lifelong careers in photo imaging and have contributed to the advancement of the industry. The PMA 2006 Distinguished Service Award recipients are Mr. James Chung, Mr. Paul Harmel, Ms. Machiko Ouchi, Mr. Rainer Schmidt, and Mr. Herb Stein. DIMA 2006 Shoot Outs feature big changes at PMA 2006 : In response to requests from participants and other Digital Imaging Marketing Association members, DIMA announces significant changes to the DIMA 2006 Digital Printer Shoot-Out, Digital Camera Shoot-Out, and Photo Kiosk Shoot-Out. This will be the 11th annual DIMA Printer Shoot-Out; and, for the first time in event history, judging of the prints took place on Jan. 18, prior to the DIMA Annual Conference, to be held at the PMA 2006. “We have completely overhauled the event,” says Chad Munce, group executive, Digital Imaging Markets. “One of the most significant changes is the target file being used was created by Graphic Intelligence Agency, using a GretagMacbeth Color Checker.
