Philips BDP-9000 Blu-ray Disc Player : Philips Electronics is delivering the ultimate High-Definition (HD) experience with the debut of its Blu-ray Disc (BD) player and all-in-one PC Writer. The anticipated consumer electronic Blu-ray Disc Payer (BDP9000) and all-in-one PC Writer (TripleWriter) will be available in the third quarter of 2006. Philips' Blu-ray Disc player is loaded with features that provide the most stunning pictures available including an HDMI output that supports the latest 1080p resolution. It also supports a component video output that will provide brilliant imagery and DVD upscaling to 1080i. Rich surround sound is heightened with multi-channel HD audio decoding and digital audio optical outputs.

Philips brings HD Wireless capability to living room : Royal Philips Electronics today announced the signing of an agreement with Metalink Ltd. for use of its high-speed 802.11n 5GHz WiFi solution in Philips Connected Home semiconductor solutions. The agreement allows Philips to offer complete solutions for wireless high definition (HD) content distribution at speeds five to 10 times faster than currently available wireless LAN 802.11a/b/g technologies. Based on the 802.11n WiFi standard, Metalink's wireless solution will provide connections for Philips advanced TV, set-top boxes (STB) and digital media adapter (DMA) system reference designs to ensure reliable in-home transport of high definition video.

OLED display increases lifetime and efficiency : Royal Philips Electronics and Novaled announce that in a joint research effort between Philips Lighting, Philips Research and Novaled, an unsurpassed record combination for efficiency and lifetime of high-brightness white Oled (Organic Light-Emitting Diodes) has been established. Philips and Novaled reached a new record for the power efficiency of a white OLED, obtaining 32 lm/W with colour coordinates of 0,47/0,45 and a CRI of 88 at a brightness of 1000 cd/m2. That same device structure thereby simultaneously shows a lifetime of more than 20000 hours which is a major achievement for a future commercialization of the OLED technology for lighting applications.

Its 3th year at the festival, Philips created the Simplicity Lounge in order to showcase current and future technology to industry VIPs and media, with an emphasis on products that enhance the viewing experience of TV and movie content for consumers. Blu-ray Disc is an optical storage standard that satisfies next-generation requirements in terms of storage capacity, data speeds, copy protection, interactivity, convenience and cost.
