Panasonic batteries for first manned electric flight : Panasonic, the brand for which Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. is known, announced today that its Oxyride dry cell batteries successfully flew a manned airplane to mark a milestone in the aeronautic history in the world. The company, together with the Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT), has been working on the Oxyride Project since January this year. On July 16, the airplane powered by 160 AA-size Oxyride dry cell batteries flew a distance of 391.4 meters at an altitude of 5.2 meters on the northern outskirts of Tokyo. The one-seat airplane, weighing 54 kg with a wingspan of 31 meters and piloted by a TIT student weighing 53 kg, was in the air for 59 seconds.

Panasonic HD video recording for SD Memory Cards : Panasonic, today announced that it has begun developing technology to record digital HD images onto SD Memory Cards, following the AVCHD standard for HD digital video cameras. The company is also constructing a new environment for editing and playing back the images. With the expected adoption of HD broadcasting in many countries and the widespread sales of HD TVs, people will be able to view HD images at home with increasingly enhanced viewing environments. The development of new device technology for the home video market is prompting a major switch in recording media to discs and SD Memory Cards, which are easier to use and more convenient than tape media.

Automated agent helps Panasonic demystify cameras : Conversagent, a developer of online customer service solutions, today announced that it has created an Automated Service Agent (ASA) for Panasonic's Lumix digital still cameras. The newest addition to AskPanasonic provides customers with detailed digital still camera product information and support using an ASA, Conversagent's online self-service technology. Available immediately at the Panasonic website. AskPanasonic engages customers in typed natural language conversations and delivers answers to pre- and post-purchase product questions in real time. The initial implementation of AskPanasonic was developed for Panasonic Plasma displays in Spring 2005.

Panasonic enters agreement with Picabo Street : Panasonic Corporation of North America announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Picabo Street to help support the company’s Olympic initiative, which will focus on building national awareness for Panasonic’s global sponsorship of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. Panasonic will involve Ms. Street in a variety of marketing and communication initiatives, including in-market appearances to help support Panasonic’s “Kid Witness News” program through which the company provides video equipment to more than 200 schools around the country allowing students to develop valuable skills through the use of video.
