Nokia supports Vodafone HSDPA launch in New Zealand : World leading HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) technology from Nokia is powering Vodafone's 3G Broadband network in New Zealand. 3G Broadband gives Vodafone's customers an innovative mobile alternative to fixed broadband so they can stay connected to their email and the Internet whilst having the freedom and convenience to move around the house, the city and even the world. Vodafone New Zealand's 3G Broadband network will initially offer speeds of up to 3.6Mbps in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The commercial launch of the service follows an extensive trial of the solution and close cooperation between Vodafone and Nokia in New Zealand.

Nokia and Plan cooperate for Africa : Nokia and international children's organisation, Plan, have joined forces to use modern communications technologies in Africa to raise children's awareness of their rights and opportunities. Nokia has provided an initial donation of 1 million Euros for 2006. The first stage of this new joint effort will see Nokia focus on supporting Plan's existing media and communications technology projects for Africa's children and youth. “We believe that we can have a positive impact through mobile technology as it is used to enable young people to realise their full potential. The aim of our cooperation with Plan is to fight poverty by empowering African youth and giving them a voice through technology.”


3G wireless network for notebooks

Nokia & Intel 3G wireless network for notebooks : Nokia is expanding mobility into a new arena by bringing wireless wide area connectivity for notebook users. Nokia has developed an HSDPA connectivity module for notebook computers, which Intel Corporation will deliver onwards to notebook manufacturers as part of its next-generation Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology platform. The connectivity module will be widely available as an embedded option in a variety of notebooks. "This collaboration is good news for notebook users as cellular technology offers superior connectivity and mobility for notebook and other portable device users. This is also a area for Nokia's multiradio expertise to expand to," said H. Tenhunen, of Nokia.

Nokia and CSL have successfully completed the first 16QAM call supporting 3.6 Mbps HSDPA in the CSL network. A smooth evolution to 3G networks, the Nokia HSDPA solution will enable CSL to offer its customers high-quality broadband mobile data services and gradually enhance the data rate to 3.6Mbps when supporting devices are available. Nokia and CSL have been working together since 1991, providing GSM, GPRS, EDGE and WCDMA infrastructure for the CSL's network.

Nokia live DVB-H mobile TV service : Global mobility leader Nokia and Vietnam Multimedia Corporation announced a jointly-inked deal to launch commercial mobile broadcast TV services based on Digital Video Broadcast-Handheld (DVB-H) technology in two key Vietnamese cities by end-2006. The agreement, Nokia's first commercial mobile TV service rollout in the Asia Pacific region, is also among the first of Nokia's commercial rollouts globally. Nokia is currently spearheading several trials in Asia Pacific, Europe and North America countries.
