System blocks unwanted video and still photography

Mark Peters : 2006-06-21 00:13:00
System blocks unwanted video and still photography : Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology have completed a prototype device that can block digital-camera function in a given area. Commercial versions of the technology could be used to stymie unwanted use of video or still cameras. The prototype device, produced by a team in the Interactive and Intelligent Computing division of the Georgia Tech College of Computing (COC), uses off-the-shelf equipment - camera - mounted sensors, lighting equipment, a projector and a computer - to scan for, find and neutralize digital cameras. The system works by looking for the reflectivity and shape of the image-producing sensors used in digital cameras.

New device revolutionizes Nano Imaging

Mark Peters : 2006-06-21 00:05:00
New device revolutionizes Nano Imaging : Georgia Tech researchers have created a highly sensitive atomic force microscopy (AFM) technology capable of high-speed imaging 100 times faster than current AFM. This technology could prove invaluable for many types of nano-research, in particular for measuring microelectronic devices and observing fast biological interactions on the molecular scale, even translating into movies of molecular interactions in real time. The research, funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, appears in the February issue of Review of Scientific Instruments. Not only is FIRAT (Force sensing Integrated Readout and Active Tip) much faster than AFM.
