SanDisk Photokina booth

Dennis Hissink : 2006-10-15 21:01:00
SanDisk Photokina booth : The booths for memory manufacturers were located in hall 6, which I think was too far away from the digital camera stalls. During Photokina, the division of roles in the memory card market was pointed out in detail. Before the start of Photokina, we were pleasantly surprised by the introduction of the incredibly fast Extreme IV memory cards and during Photokina 2006 SanDisk increased the storage capacity of its Extreme III CompactFlash cards to 12, and 16GB respectively. Other manufacturers then immediately announced the ‘introduction' of 16GB cards, but could not produce any working examples. SanDisk however, really does have working samples and will be supplying the cards all over the world from November / December 2006.

Leica Photokina booth

Ilse Jurriën : 2006-10-15 19:00:00
Leica Photokina booth : There it was - the stall - almost unbelievable but it really was there…. Leica. Leica has launched a digital counter offensive from practically nowhere. The period leading up to and during Photokina 2006 saw the introduction of 2 Leica compact cameras, a SLR camera, two Leica lenses and an attractive Leica M8 Digital camera. The collaboration between Leica and Panasonic seems to paying off. Leica's attractive stall was totally in black and fabulous looking with beautiful, black Apple note books at the reception. It was all very classy, the sort of artistic statement that Leica has not forgotten how to pull off.

Nokia Photokina booth

Ilse Jurriën : 2006-10-15 18:55:53
Nokia Photokina booth : Nokia set up its booth in a strategic position between the digital camera manufacturers. The striking white Nokia booth showed its newest compact camphones, some in combination with an Epson mini-printer, others with only a headphone. There is no stopping of the camphone's mars, which is on the up and up and although photographers stubbornly refuse to consider the little wonder gadget as a camera, the rest of us can't get enough of it. No wonder - you always have your mobile with you and you can capture any nice moments directly with the inbuilt camera.

Samsung Photokina booth

Ilse Jurriën : 2006-10-15 15:07:00
Samsung Photokina booth : It was interesting to see how Samsung's progress at Photokina. If we compare Samsung's current range to that of two years ago, we can see that a lot has changed. While the compacts were simple cameras that felt a bit cheap, the current range is a different story. The new NV series, for example; the NV10 comes out top with 10 Megapixels in resolution, but the NV7 OPS is a daring design and shows a completely different Samsung design. It is not for nothing that we heard the Samsung being mentioned often, with the same conclusion being reached every time. It seems that Samsung is a manufacturer to watch out for. Even employees from the top 3 camera manufacturers expect great things from Samsung and fear that it has even more up its sleeve.

Olympus Photokina booth

Ilse Jurriën : 2006-10-09 21:30:00
Olympus booth at Phtokina : Olympus’s stand was large and light and eye-catching. Olympus presented its entire range, including the new line of digital compact cameras and the new Olympus E-400 digital SLR camera. We did not see many new imaging products, everything was already introduced in August, but the public had the opportunity to work with Olympus’s newest equipment. The hopes cherished by many enthusiastic and professional photographers before the Photokina opened were not really fulfilled. There have been rumours about the production of a follow-up to the first FourThirds System camera; the Olympus E-1.

Panasonic Photokina booth

Ilse Jurriën : 2006-10-09 21:00:00
Panasonic booth at Photokina : If there was one stall that was impossible to ignore, that was Panasonic. Panasonic showed that it has become a trend-setting player on the digital imaging market within a relatively short space of time with an overwhelming presentation of products. The current LUMIX series of digital cameras are stylish and have all been fitted with MEGA O.I.S. (optical image stabilisation), a valuable feature. Panasonic is busy climbing to the top and is clearly successful in the compact camera segment. The visitors had the opportunity to try out the new models and lots of them did. The new top models from the LUMIX series, the Panasonic FZ50 and LX2, have a ten Megapixel image sensor combined with the new Venus III processor. Three new compact LUMIX cameras were also put in the spotlight; the FX3, FX07 and the FX50.

Nikon Photokina booth

Ilse Jurriën : 2006-10-09 20:30:40
Nikon booth at Photokina : The Nikon stand at Photokina could hardly be missed. In striking colours, yellow and deep black, Nikon presented itself to the host of visitors who wanted to see the new Nikon range with their own eyes. The star of the show was the new Nikon D80, Nikon's newest digital reflex camera. The Nikon D80 could anticipate a great deal of interest and large numbers of them were on show, so that the visitors flocking to the stand could hold the camera and try it out themselves. De Nikon D80 has a ten Megapixel image sensor and many high quality techniques taken straight from Nikon’s professional SLR line. Personally, I think there is a good chance that the Nikon D80 will grab a very large share of the market.

Pentax Photokina booth

Ilse Jurriën : 2006-10-09 20:28:47
Pentax booth at Photokina : The Pentax booth also got quite a lot of attention, most of it for one product; the new Pentax K10D digital SLR camera. The Pentax K10D, featuring ten Megapixel CCD, anti-dust and image stabilization, is a very interesting digital SLR camera that will need to compete against other ten Megapixel DSLR cameras from brands like Canon, Nikon, Sony, Samsung and Olympus for a share of the market. A lot of consumers were eager to touch and try the new K10D themselves and we heard a lot of positive reactions about the operation and build of the camera.

Fujifilm Photokina booth

Ilse Jurriën : 2006-10-09 19:20:00
Fujifilm booth at Photokina : If you think of Photokina, you think automatically of Fujifilm, at least it seems so if you visit their booth. It is a large booth with a host of products that show that Fujifilm is a very active player on the digital imaging market. Fujifilm seems to have a solution for everything, whether you are taking a picture or processing it. Fujifilm presents its digital compact camera line in a striking manner: most of the competition only show the product itself, but Fujifilm shows the public various innovations from the camera.

Canon Photokina booth

Ilse Jurriën : 2006-10-09 19:00:00
Canon booth at Photokina : It was practically impossible to avoid the booth that Canon had allocated themselves. The enormous range of products that Canon had introduced to the public this year and just before the Photokina, were presented against a brightly coloured red and white background. One of the magnets was the Canon EOS 400D, the successor to the highly successful EOS 350D as well as being Canon’s debut on the 10 Megapixel segment. The Canon 400D must compete against an army of 10 Megapixel DSLR cameras and although you could normally bet your life on Canon taking a large share of the market, things may be different this year. The competition is also churning out winners and the Nikon D80 and Pentax K10D in particular will be able to give Canon a good run for its money and maybe even make a dent in Canon’s DSLR supremacy.
