Priced at $1,599 (estimated street price), the Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 400 features HD native resolution (720p) in widescreen 16:9 format, uses the latest Epson Cinema Filter and Dynamic Eye Iris to achieve a contrast ratio up to 5000:1, and produces one of the highest brightness levels (up to 1,500 ANSI lumens) in its class. Seiko Epson agrees inkjet cartridges settlement : In on-going activities to protect its intellectual property rights, Seiko Epson Corporation has agreed to settle with Recharge Inkjet Technologies Limited an internet retailer (trading under the name CartridgeMonkey) based in Bolton, UK. The settlement terms include Recharge undertaking not to infringe Epson’s patents and registered designs, and making substantial settlement payment to Epson. The full terms of the settlement are confidential. Mr Scott, director of Recharge said, “Following discussions with Epson's, we have discontinued our range of ink cartridges compatible with Epson branded printers because of concerns that they may infringe Epson's intellectual property rights.

These flatbed scanners are not only engineered to capture high-quality, but can do so at resolutions up to 1200 x 1200 dpi for intense detail. They can scan documents up to 27 pages per minute in monochrome (ppm) and up to 11 ppm in color in 300 dpi. A6-size electronic paper from Epson : Seiko Epson Corp. ("Epson") has successfully developed A6-size (7.1 inches on the diagonal) electronic paper using a plastic substrate. Drawing on Epson’s original SUFTLA technology, the new electronic paper achieves Quad-XGA resolution (1536 x 2048 pixels) - the world’s highest - and shows the potential for increasing screen size. The development was announced on June 9 at the Society for Information Display (SID) international symposium held in San Francisco. Epson has long been working to develop and manufacture low-power-consumption, space-saving electronic devices. At the cutting edge of these efforts, R&D has focused on thin, light and flexible devices that can be reshaped as needed.

Micro Piezo technology from Epson receives award : At the heart of all Epson’s digital printing technology lies the unique Micro Piezo print head. The leader of the project responsible for its invention, Minoru Usui, currently Seiko Epson director and the general administrative manager of the Production and Engineering & Development Division, has been awarded the prestigious Perkin Medal in recognition of his achievement. The award, established by the Society of Dyers and Colourists, recognizes individuals for their outstanding technical development within the realm of colour science. Only 22 of these medals have been awarded since the award’s inauguration in 1901. The awards are presented in honour of William Henry Perkin.

In addition to its development of OLED displays, Epson has researched the characteristics of OLED as an electronic device. Specifically, Epson has succeeded in creating a print head that uses OLED as a light source (OLED print head), opening the way for utilization of OLED as a new printing technology for printers. At present, electrophotographic printing technologies for copiers and printers use either laser or LED light sources. Epson merged the many years of expertise it had accumulated in printing and display technology.
