TDK withdraws from recordable CD & DVD products

TDK withdraws from recordable CD & DVD products : TDK Corporation announced today that the board of directors decided at the board meeting held on March 8, 2006, to further accelerate the restructuring of recording media business, to withdraw from the manufacturing of recordable CD&DVD products in TDK group. Consequently, TDK decided to shut down the production facilities at its European subsidiary, TDK Recording Media Europe in Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The shut down is planned to take place at the end of May 2006. This decision completes TDK's withdrawal from the manufacturing of recordable CD & DVD products, coupled with the reorganization of plants in Chikumagawa area (Nagano, Japan) implemented at the end of last year.


MMC Association & JEDEC sign collaborative agreement

MMC Association & JEDEC sign collaborative agreement : The MultiMediaCard Association (MMCA) and JEDEC today announced that they have entered into a collaborative agreement under which they will work together to develop MMC memory card specifications as a joint set of standards to be adopted by both organizations. Under the agreement, the MultiMediaCard Association and JEDEC will form a Joint Task Force for the standardization work in which member companies from both organizations will participate. According to Yves Leonard, Chairman of the MMCA Board of Directors, "This historic collaboration between the MultiMediaCard Association and JEDEC will greatly extend the push for unified open standards for multimedia cards.


LG Electronics selects OmniVision as CMOS supplier

LG Electronics selects OmniVision as CMOS supplier : OmniVision, a supplier of CMOS image sensors, announced a strategic relationship with LG Electronics to be the preferred supplier for its fast growing camera phone business. In order to support the number one CDMA phone supplier, OmniVision will expand its Korean operations by hiring additional staff and working with its module partners to ensure capacity for 2006. OmniVision expects to supply camera chips for over 50% of LG’s camera phone shipments this year. According to market research firm Strategy Analytics, LG Electronics leads the world in CDMA phone sales with a 21.2% worldwide market share and over 22 million CDMA handsets sold in the first 3 quarters of 2005.

I3A Consumer Photo Preservation Initiative

I3A Consumer Photo Preservation Initiative : The International Imaging Industry Association (I3A), the leading global association for the imaging industry, today announced the launch of its Consumer Photo Preservation Initiative (CPP). This effort is designed to take the mystery out of preserving digital images by educating consumers about the risks, nature and proper methodology for storing, cataloging and preserving digital images using an easy to follow step-by-step approach. A period of Open Enrollment will now provide the opportunity for interested I3A member companies to confirm their commitment to the project. The announcement was made in conjunction with I3A's activities at the PMA 2006 taking place in Orlando this week.
