Nokia Nseries photo competition winners revealed : A software engineer from India has today been named the global winner of the Nokia Nseries See New photo competition, one of the most ambitious mobile photography competitions ever undertaken, judged by five of the world's best photographers. Pinjalim Bora joined thousands of people from around the world taking up the challenge to 'shoot new' - capturing something from a different angle or something never previously photographed - using a megapixel camera phone. Pinjalim's image, 'The Nose Ball' caught the eye of judge Raghu Rai, one of India's most respected documentary photographers and was then voted the overall winner by a panel of Nokia imaging experts.

Fujifilm and National Geographic Photo Competition : Many budding photographers can only dream of seeing their pictures printed in National Geographic magazine, an ambition usually achieved by just a handful of the world’s top professional photographers. Fujifilm Digital and National Geographic magazine have teamed up to give one talented amateur photographer the chance to go on assignment with globe-trotting, adventure photographer Bill Hatcher and see the results published in a special three-page feature in an upcoming issue. Fujifilm is set to make one lucky amateur photographer realise a dream with their digital camera - this National Geographic photo competition is not open to professional photographers.

Intervideo Ulead announces photo contest winner : InterVideo Inc. and its partner Ulead Systems, Inc. industry leaders in video, image and DVD software, today announced the winners in a worldwide project, entitled Snapshot in Time. The project was arranged by the MediaStudio Pro Users Group (MUG-SW), an online community of Ulead MediaStudio Pro users. "In today's world of Internet communications, an idea can spread around the world with positive results. Such is the case with the Snapshot in Time (SiT) 2005 project", said Peter Burchert, project coordinator. "The aim of the SiT projects is to provide an outlet for users of Ulead MediaStudio Pro to show off their talents and share something of their lives and hobbies with their peers.

Los Angeles Center for Digital Art call for entries : Enter our juried competion for digital art and photography. Entrants submit three JPEG files of original work. All styles of 2D artwork and photography where digital processes of any kind were integral to the creation of the images are acceptable. The selected winner recieves 10 prints up to 44x60 inches on canvas or museum quality paper (approximately a $1500-$2000 value) to be shown in a solo exhibition in our gallery from June 8-July 1, 2006. The show will be widely promoted and will include a reception for the artist. Second place prizes: Five second place winners will receive one print of their work up to 24x36 inches ($200 in value) to be included in upcoming group shows.

Nikon Small World photographic competition : This year Nikon has advanced the date for entries in the Nikon Small World competition which has provided both amateur and professional microscopists an opportunity to showcase their photographic skills made possible by the light microscope for over 30 years. Contestants are reminded they can submit a maximum of three images, either digitally at Nikons website, or via film at Nikon Small World. Nikon will notify winners' mid-summer, as the 1st and 2nd place prize winners will receive Nikon products worth $3,000 and $2,000 respectively. Photography student of the year competition : Reviving Ilford Photo's long-standing support of students of photography, the company has launched what will be an annual Student of the Year competition. More than simply judging Student work (a print judgement), this event offers students the opportunity to not only set up the basis of their equipment with a leading camera system, but also to benefit from working alongside leading professional photographers. There are two stages to the competition: Firstly, students need to submit a portfolio of six black-and-white prints depicting the theme 'The rebirth of black-and-white photography and of Ilford Photo'. Photos need to be submitted by 30 June 2006.

Fujifilm Photographer Award : The deadline for the 2006 Fujifilm Student Awards is fast approaching. Students have until April 1st 2006 to submit their entries. This year's Awards has the subtitle, 'The Best of British' and students are asked to submit images that best sum up cultural Britain. The competition, which is the longest running and most prestigious student photography award in UK, will see the winner collect a first prize of £1,000 and the title of Fujifilm Student Photographer. Each winner will receive £50 worth of Fujifilm film and will be asked to submit a print for judging. The college that submits the most entries will receive a Fujifilm Professional counter-top refrigerator containing £500 worth of Professional film.

Canon Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest winner : Doug Richards of Salem, Ohio is the winner of the Canon and Pro Football Hall of Fame Amateur's "Catch the Impossible" Photo Challenge for his photo of son Matthew playing youth football. Richards wins a trip for four to attend Super Bowl XL in Detroit and will earn a once in a lifetime opportunity to have his photo displayed in The Pro Football Hall of Fame, in Canton. In addition, he wins a trip for four to the 2006 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Celebration in June 2006. Richards took the winning photo during his son's football game for the United Local Eagles. Matthew, a pint-sized halfback, was photographed being tackled and stretching the ball out for a first down.

PIEA 2006 student-teacher photo competition winners : The Photo Imaging Education Association (PIEA), a member association of PMA, Jackson, Mich, USA, announces the winners of the 2006 PIEA International Student-Teacher Photo Competition. The judges have chosen 112 images submitted by 93 entrants out of 5,915 images submitted by 1,330 entrants from 101 schools in seven countries. Winners come from middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities in Australia, Canada, Guatemala, India, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Each award winner and exhibitor will share in the more than US$110,000 in prizes sponsored by 94 generous companies and organizations from six countries.

Fujifilm Professional Distinctions Awards 2006 update : Fujifilm UK announced that the format of Fujifilm Professional's Distinctions Awards has changed for 2006. The main change is that all images must now have been shot using film. These images can then be scanned and submitted in the usual way via the Distinctions website, www.fujifilmdistinctions.co.uk. The prize fund has been increased, with the 1st prize being doubled to £2,000. A runner-up prize of £1,000 and a 3rd place prize of £500 have also been introduced. Fujifilm Professional will carry on its support for the wider industry through its support of the main professional photographic associations and its continued backing of the Envisage marketing programme.
