Underwater photo and video competition : Over $55,000 in prizes up for grabs as Wetpixel.com and DivePhotoGuide.com issue a call for entries for two unique international underwater photo and video competitions. Never before have two international competitions associated with dive expos on opposite sides of the world cooperated to establish a complementary series of categories and prizing opportunities. The 2nd Annual Wetpixel & DivePhotoGuide International Underwater Photo and Video Competition, in Association with Chicago's Our World Underwater now has a sister competition. The contest invited non-professional video enthusiasts to submit short, humorous films created using VideoStudio. The online competition had a distinct international flavor, drawing hundreds of entries from as far as Spain, Russia, India, the UK and Sweden. SanDisk Iceland competition : While we were visiting the SanDisk booth at the Photokina event and were informed by Tanya Chuang, SanDisk’s senior retail product marketing manager, about the latest Extreme III 12 and 16GB CompactFlash and the new Ultra II SDHC flash memory cards we were enjoying the live performance of some street dancers. With the help of a DJ the dancers started to show their moves and the audience were caught by the act. At the SanDisk Booth visitors were able to enter the SanDisk Iceland competition. The Iceland competition will last till December 18, 2006. The SanDisk Iceland competition is a fantastic holiday prize for two to Iceland for eight days and includes all return flights, accommodation and car hire.

The agency, called OpenWorld Learning, teaches nearly 600 elementary school students about technology every year. But the nonprofit has focused on the needs of its students rather than the needs of its office. Microsoft Pro Photographer Contest : Brooks Institute announced today that Ho Young Choi, a recent graduate, was awarded first place honors in the category People & Portraits in Microsoft Corporation’s inaugural and groundbreaking Future Pro Photographer contest. Choi competed among more than 7,700 students from over 90 countries. It’s considered a landmark effort by the software maker and reinforces Microsoft’s commitment to photography and to its ongoing development of technology and services aimed at furthering the profession. Choi, who graduated in June 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Photography concentrating on Portraiture and Commercial Photography, entitles his award-winning entry ‘The Faces.’

High School students to compete at Canon Envirothon

High School students to compete at Canon Envirothon : More than 250 teenagers from 44 U.S. states and eight Canadian provinces will descend upon the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada to participate in North America's largest high school environmental education competition - the 2006 Canon Envirothon. Participants will learn about environmental issues affecting natural resources as they compete for a share of $75,000 in college scholarships and prizes. Organized in cooperation with the National Association of Conservation Districts in the U.S. and The Canadian Forestry Association, the competition tests teams on their knowledge of soil/land use, forestry, aquatic ecology, wildlife and natural resources, among other topics.

With its YOUNG FACES Model Contest 2006, AWI will build on the huge success of the model contest held during Photokina 2004.
