Nokia & Intel 3G wireless network for notebooks : Nokia is expanding mobility into a new arena by bringing wireless wide area connectivity for notebook users. Nokia has developed an HSDPA connectivity module for notebook computers, which Intel Corporation will deliver onwards to notebook manufacturers as part of its next-generation Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology platform. The connectivity module will be widely available as an embedded option in a variety of notebooks. "This collaboration is good news for notebook users as cellular technology offers superior connectivity and mobility for notebook and other portable device users. This is also a area for Nokia's multiradio expertise to expand to," said H. Tenhunen, of Nokia.

Apple iMac 24-inch : Apple announced that its entire iMac line now features the new Intel Core 2 Duo processor in every model, delivering up to 50 percent faster performance than the previous iMac. A new Apple 24-inch iMac with a brilliant 24-inch widescreen display joins the 17- and 20-inch models, and iMac prices now start at just $999. Every new iMac includes a built-in iSight video camera for video conferencing out-of-the-box; Apple’s breakthrough Front Row media experience; and iLife ‘06, the next generation of Apple’s award-winning suite of digital lifestyle applications. The new Apple 24-inch 2.16GHz iMac will have a suggested retail price of $1,999 (US). The Apple iMac line-up includes four models.

Fujitsu macros for ASIC : Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) today expanded its portfolio of IP cores for networking, communications and storage system applications, introducing three new macros for custom ASIC designs. The new macros include Fujitsu's Serial ATA physical layer storage interface, a 10 Gigabit/second clock data recovery transceiver, and a SerDes macro that is compliant with PCI Express version 1.0a. All three macros can be used in designs built using Fujitsu's 0.11-micron process technology. The PCI Express SerDes and Serial ATA macros have also been designed to be used in 90-nanometer designs. All macros can be applied in customer-owned tooling (COT) and ASIC designs.

IBM Personal Computer : IBM Corporation announced its smallest, lowest-priced computer system - the IBM Personal Computer. Designed for business, school and home, the easy-to-use system sells for as little as $1,565. It offers many advanced features and, with optional software, may use hundreds of popular application programs. The IBM Computer will be sold through participating ComputerLand dealers and new business machine stores beginning this fall. It will also be sold through IBM Product Centers and a special sales unit in the company's Data Processing Division. IBM has designed its Personal Computer for the first-time or advanced user, whether a business person in need of accounting help or a student preparing a term paper.

LCD panel from Samsung Electronics : Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest provider of thin-film transistor, liquid crystal display panels, announced today that it has developed the first three-inch LCD panel with VGA (640 x 480 pixels) resolution that directly meets industry interface standards for digital still cameras. Executive Vice President Yun Jin-hyuk of Samsung Electronics said, "Our new LCD panel will make viewing of digital pictures distinctly more impressive on camera screens, personal multi-media players and other products requiring high-image resolution and low-power consumption." Digital camera makers use an interface known as ITU-R601, an international standard for cathode ray tube TVs that operates at 30Hz.
